The ingenuity of our predecessors allowed us to create ways to meet such basic needs as this one. It is a very rudimentary machine but it surely worked and helped a lot at the time. In certain towns of my country (Venezuela), the characteristic sound (like a small flute) announcing the passage of the knives sharpener is still heard from time to time.

I can't believe it takes such a big machine to grind such a small piece. Grinding knives is an art. In Venezuelan fields they usually use large flat stones to get a sharp edge and there is usually an expert who does it. Thank you for sharing, @velimir.
