Inktober Day 5, Build

Hello true believers, I hope you are well.
It seems that Inktober is all the rage this year and I for one am glad to see a worldwide community of artists come together with such bold ideas and interesting takes on the prompts. Last night I went with 5 Instagram references of blue collar hunks for build and so I spend 5 minutes on each one.

Meet my own private guest judge Jennifer Chernecki, she will be in charge of eliminating one drawing per round. Why not turn a festive art jam into a game? Meanwhile, our beautiful diva carries on with a combo of build and frozen featuring her dog Levi. The wind-up caterpillar is for day 3, bait.

Cyclops over here got slain more violently than in Days of Future Past and the man on the rails was next. Who on earth will survive the next cut?

I would like to clarify the rules to make sure we are all on the same page. We are talking about 5 minutes spent on 5 sketches for round 1. Then, Jen gets to eliminate one. Each of the 4 reimagining drawing deserves another 5 minutes for round 2. Another is eliminated. Etc.
And may the best stud win!

After four rounds and a total of 20 minutes on him, our distinguished judge is sending homey here packing faster than a Rue Paul’s Drag Race contestant. He will not be joining our Pitcrew tonight.

Of course our winner would get another 5 minutes for finishing touches, it was a riveting game that spiced up our evening and even Simon the cat was excited at the end.

Let’s not forget the Gin sodas which helped us decompress from a stressful week.

I wanted to give the winning pose another shot and try improve the chin and give the character more presence.

He is strong, he is bold and he is giving you a Maoist propaganda poster look in his eyes, he is built for the gods! On a side note, I am getting a Super Mario joins the X-Men kind of vibe. Jen was kind enough to lend me some of her colored ink which made things much more interesting. That teal is to die for, there’s something to be said about vibrant traditional mediums like this one. Having them on your brush and observing the chemistry unfold on the paper.

Jen is a machine over here, I am humbled to be in the midst of the artistic force that she is.

The brief case and the fabric frame the architecture for build; while the fluid blooms all around have the winterly bite of frozen.

I think the quilts fabrics are just too precious, and that Leviticus’ snout is so on point. I am fascinated by the patience required to achieve that kind of realism. The only thing that would improve it for me is if the mist could come a little bit forward. Perhaps it could give this beautiful composition even more depth.

Sharing the experience with friends is what Inktober is all about!
Even if you don’t consider yourself an artist, you should give it a shot! Make the prompt work with music, writing or whatever you do!

Speaking of, I want to give a shout-out to @carlgnash who has combined 3 days worth of prompts in a single drawing and the result is genius! Carl your resourcefulness has stayed with me for days, it is a life lesson to make the most of any situation.
