An Evening of Curator Cat Creative Photo Processing Fun!
Greetings everyone!
Hope your weekend has been a good one! We had a house full (of Hoomans) this weekend, and I have to admit that I did enjoy the fuss and extra attention of the visitors all wanting me to feel reassured and loved as "only cat" in the house.
Everybody has left now, and the Dad-Hooman decided we should have some "creative fun" with one of my photos. So we set out to see what we could come up with!
One of the more interesting effects we tried out was this classic "woodcut" look... like an illustration from a very old book.
I suppose we should start by showing you what we started out with:
Here I am, looking at something outside the window on our deck. Probably a bird at the bird feeder. It's a decent enough portrait shot with my whiskers clearly visible... a little overexposed, perhaps. Just not super interesting.
Now, simply by turning it into a black-and-white, it already looks crisper and more dramatic:
Suddenly, the cat is the focal point, and the eye isn't distracted by the peach colored wall in the background.
The Dad-Hooman used to work in the usability department at a Fortune-500 computer manufacturer, and would watch test subjects in a lab setting to see where their eyes would go to on computer screens, given different color layouts and screen setups.
He knows his stuff!
For a softer look, we tried the "vintage sepiatone" type photo with a vanishing border, like an early 1900's postcard.
Interesting enough, but we didn't like how my otherwise shiny black fur came off looking slightly greenish. Not the desired effect!
The final one — which turned out to be both our favorites — the Dad-Hooman referred to as "Burning Man Acid Trip."
I'm not quite sure what that means, but I like the very artsy look. And the way my fur now looks like waves of grain in the breeze.
I'm sure we could have gotten into way more fun and games, but the Dad-Hooman had to head off and do some of his "eBay stuff," so we decided to call it quits for the night.
