"You Never Change Things By Fighting Existing Reality. To Change Something, Build A New Model That Makes The Old Model Obsolete"

in #creativity6 years ago (edited)

This inspired quote is one that will help you feel better in times of anger and stress if you look at our world and fret at the mess.

Steem is a good example of the way that old, broken ideas can be replaced - whether that be centralised social media platforms or money (or both!).

buckminster fuller - change

Buckminster Fuller was a creative thinker who created a form of sacred geometric shape that has been shown to have extremely useful physical properties in a variety of ways. He knew that existing paradigms and consciousness often have a resistance to change that means they become frozen and un-receptive to new insights. By simply choosing differently and creating improved solutions and outcomes, we eventually show which works best and why.

The only barrier to this working with all problems in life is that often it is our feelings which let us know that something is the better choice, but many of us are disconnecting from real feelings - meaning that many literally cannot know what is best. For this reason (and many others) emotional healing is the first stage in our global evolutionary schedule ;)

Really interesting. Do you look at the shape, and it affects you?

Great post. When I first came to Steemit I was an Anarchist who was always trying to convince people that statism was wrong and they should be anarchists. At the exact same time I came here I had the realization that that is not how to create change. That's why I took over a year away from Steemit!

I have found that studying sacred geometry on all levels, including the maths involved and the implications etc. does have an effect on my energy and consciousness level, yes. In the case of Buckminster Fuller's forms, I haven't yet gone fully in depth with them to have such an experience, but maybe one day:

In some cases it is possible to teach people what they have missed and why your preferred option is the more beneficial one - but I feel to achieve wider acceptance requires a fairly well planned teaching schedule and organisation. It is generally more productive (or at least as productive) to simply live the life that is being promoted and demostrate its benefits. The issue with anarchism vs. non-anarchism is that the latter applies pressure that doesn't feel good and so makes a pushback against it somewhat inevitable - so it becomes a case of 'work smarter, not harder' ;)

Nice in theory but sometimes in practice an existing model, particularly a tyrannical one, must be weakened or destroyed to make room for the new.

There are certainly situations where unconsciousness and dysfunction takes such a hold that direct action is needed. The issue then is how to go about doing that without just recreating more of the same in a different form. If I look back through human history it looks a lot to me like our collective intention to end tyranny and the various attempts to do so have not really achieved that even now.. Despite revolutions and countless deaths 'fighting for freedom', the needed balance has not been found. This is because we aren't generally yet working on the deepest levels where the seeds of the imbalanace can be found.

This has proven to be the truth in my experience. It makes sense metaphysically, if we resist something it creates a charged polarity that keeps that thing alive. Mind wants a dualistic conflict, but it seems to work better to direct ourselves towards unified solutions and ignore / move away from what doesn't work.

I think so, yes. Positivity is integrative and we can still reject something without creating denials. I can know that I don't want to get involved in fighting wars, without going to war with those who create wars! ;)

I absolutely love this quote. Thanks for sharing.

Oftentimes it's easier to deal with an uncomfortable situation than to take that first unknown step into something different.

Good write up...well written

And to change any of the things you have to first find out if their is a problem at all or not.
Never try to mend anything that's broken. If we have an idea and keep an open mind then we can strive to improve the existing things into its better versions.

i totally agree.
