John McAfee to Promote Crypto in 2020 US Presidential Race
Programmer John McAfee made known his intention to make use of his 2020 bid for United States presidency as a platform to promote permissionless cryptocurrencies.
McAfee made the comments in an interview with Cointelegraph.
Speaking at the Malta Blockchain Summit, the founder of McAfee Antivirus Software disclosed that he plans to run “around a libertarian platform,” and utilize his access to the national stage to talk about cryptocurrencies, while conveying сonfidence that “no one will elect [him] as president.”
McAfee remarked that his pro-crypto stance is mostly founded on the concept of “personal freedom,” declaring that in his forthcoming campaign for presidency he wants “to talk about personal freedom and how cryptocurrency can help us achieve that.”
McAfee explained that his goal to run to presidency was not to emerge victorious, but rather to get a large public platform for promoting decentralized cryptocurrencies.
He said:
“That’s [crypto] all I’m going to talk about. See, I don’t want to be president. I couldn’t be...no one’s going to elect me president, please God. However, I’ve got the right to run.”
McAfee first divulged his intention to run for U.S. president in 2020 to support the crypto community and endorse crypto in early June, 2018.
In the interview, McAfee also repeated his prediction from last-year that top cryptocurrency Bitcoin (BTC) would reach $1 million by the year of the U.S. president elections. However, McAfee elucidated that that amount of U.S. dollars would not be the same $1 million that we have at the moment, since fiat currencies would most likely go to crypto markets, adding assuredly:
“In five years time fiat will be on its last legs.”
The upcoming U.S. presidential run would be not the first one for McAfee ,who pursued the Libertarian Party nomination in 2016. McAfee has since asserted that if he “been more connected with the community in 2016,” he would even have better promoted the idea of “currency independence.”
