Are Devices That Can Mine A New Thing?

in #crypto6 years ago

Just last week I feel like I wrote about a company called Canaan in which they announced a smart TV that would also mine cryptocurrrency while it was on. Those funds could then be used to buy things right from the TVs store or of course withdrawn.

However the hashing power on it was 1/5th what a real dedicated miner would get you.

I do understand why they went this direction and it makes sense to try and spread mining capabilities out across as many people as possible.

Well Bitmain one ups Canaan today announcing their internet routers that can mine Dash and Siacoin. This router is called the Antrouter R3-Dash and the Antrouter R3-SIA (I will admit I never heard about Siacoin till just now)

The dash router comes in at just $58 USD and mines at about 300M/s which is at 24 - 25 watts of power. A normal router would eat up about 5-10 if that. So the power bill wont kill you like it might with the TV version Canaan released.

The Siacoin router comes in at 58 USD as well and mines at 11.54G/s and uses 22-23 watts of power.

Granted neither of these will mine you all to much however it is something everyone with internet can afford and be part of helping crypto become even more secure and wide spread.

The TV version kind of seems like a dead in the water idea to mine bitcoin but these two routers I can see being bought and used by just about everyone. It is low cost cost just as much as any decent router and mines you crypto! what else could you ask for lol

The question comes will this be the future of crypto mining?

I like the idea of low power but mining capabilities on some devices but not all and the option to turn it off and on as you wish. But it does seem like something like this needs to happen in order to get more people mining and spreading that mining wealth around to really make these cryptos decentralized.

However an important note about these routers is that they will be connected to bitmains antpool which already holds a rather decent amount of mining power. Not only are they selling you the hardware to mine with but they are not taking a small fee for all the mining you do through their pool.

The TV mining idea is a quit new. I think the idea is going to robust soonest because its all about entertainment.
