Missoula County Looks At Establishing Permanent Zoning for Crypto Mining

in #crypto3 years ago

The Missoula County Planning Board recently got together for the very first public hearing just this week and one of the first issues being discussed was the topic of permanent zoning for cryptocurrency mining.
In various places where crypto mining has grown popular, there are complaints that have been made against those efforts because of the noise from the mining operations, or the energy and environmental impacts that some argue they might have. It has upset plenty of gamers because it has made it more difficult for them to get graphics cards too.

The county previously introduced interim crypto mining rules that are supposed to expire early this year. Before they expire, now the county is looking at renewing those rules for that crypto mining that could take place under permanent zoning.

They are going to be having multiple sessions of public comment, where people can share their opinions on the matter with those authorities who are looking to settle this issue.
Missoula County officials have previously sought to get feedback on the plan to get cryptocurrency miners to comply with various zoning and noise regulations, along with the requirement to have them build and use renewable energy sources. From rules over computer fans, to how they deal with waste, to where they can operate etc, the government is looking to get more involved.

That seems rather pointless, why create zoning rules for crypto? That makes no sense at all!
