My Wirex Visa Card Has Arrived and 'Cryptoback'

A week ago I wrote about Wirex's announcement that their plastic Visa cards were available to order - they had to withdraw them last year at Wavecrest's behest. I went ahead and ordered mine as I only had a virtual card to use for online purchases.

Once ordered I was informed it could take up to ten days to arrive. Seven days later, it's here.

It arrived in this neat little box with a little tab to pull on the right-hand side.

Pulling the tab makes the card slide out of the left. Very cool. For obvious reasons I have blanked out my card details ;-)

Next thing to do was to activate the card through the Wirex app. You are asked the last 4 digits of the card number and the expiry date. Once entered my funds from the virtual card were transferred to this one. Very painless process.

Checking my Wirex account online, I noticed this little button.

Hmmm. Curious, I clicked it.

Nice! Every time I use the plastic card in store, I get 0.5% of the value in Bitcoin.

For those curious about card fees, here is the rundown.

And here are the card limits.

As a reminder, you can now load Litecoin onto your account now, as well as Bitcoin. Litecoin is quicker and has lower fees.

Wirex has an affiliate scheme. For everybody who signs up through your link, you receive 10% of the total gross fees from that new account for the first year. For the second and third years, you earn 5%. Here is my affiliate link should you care to sign up.

Now excuse me as I go to test out my new card :-D

Any follow up post? Everything worked fine?

Used the card twice. It's contactless and worked fine.

One half of one percent? Still pretty significant. I use about 4 grand usd a month on my paypal mastercard, which returns 1% cashback and I get nice fat deposits every month of almost 50 bucks sometimes.

In bitcoin, 0.5% would be 25 bucks worth of bitcoin on that same math, so thats not insignificant at ALL, if it's stored as bitcoin and not a spot price cash rebate. Meaning the btc can than sit and increase in value, as opposed to being statically valued at the time of the rebate.

Not bad card, not bad.

PS: I'm not gonna let you blank out all your details. Not having that, brother. <3

It can get a bit more careless on here:

That's actually pretty cool. I'd take half a percent in BTC any day. I use my card for business expenses, and rack up a ton of cost each month. At 0.5%, when BTC goes to 100k...that'd be a nice little piggybank of coins.

That does look like a neat deal.

I will be interested to hear how you get on with it.

Is there a web interface to manage it - or only a phone app? I don't have mobile signal around these parts.

Any idea why the card limits are so low?

Do they give you a British account or a sepa account number to transfer in and out of?

I have a British account no.

This is a great article!

The card at the top is technically an old image, from our previous offering.

We'll re-steem it for you if you can use our new branding images from our Press Kit:
