Ethereum Founder Vitalik Buterin Awarded Honorary Doctorate from Swiss University

Switzerland's University of Basel awarded ethereum creator Vitalik Buterin an honorary doctorate on November 30.

The institution’s Faculty of Business and Economics presented now Dr. Buterin with the recognition for his work on blockchain, cryptocurrency, smart contracts, institutional design, game theory, economic incentives, governance, and decentralization and equal rights of participation in the digital revolution.

His research to date has been published without an academic degree and without any connections to a university. Said Dr. Buterin:

I’m honored to have received an honorary doctorate from the University of Basel, the oldest University of Switzerland. Switzerland is well known for its innovative blockchain research.
