Two bitcoin developers sent a lightning payment over radio waves.

Rodolfo Novak, co-founder of bitcoin hardware startup CoinKite, sent bitcoin from Toronto, Canada to developer and Bloomberg columnist Elaine Ou in San Francisco, California.

The idea itself is the brainchild of Nick Szabo, inventor of the smart contract

The transaction was meant to demonstrate both that radio signals can be used for much more than playing music or talk shows, and that crypto is not dependent on the internet - in case a country or entity might try to censor or restrict access.

However, the transaction was coordinated on Twitter, so it was still dependent on the internet. Nonetheless, it opens the door to possibilities for increasing resiliency of the bitcoin network.
