Cryptoboard.tech | Improve Your Crypto Trading with a Dashboard Showing Trends from Twitter, Google and GitHub

in #cryptocurrency6 years ago

When I began reading about cryptocurrencies and started trading some of them, it turned out to be very hard to get valuable and reliable information about those currencies and platforms. A lot of misinformation is available on Twitter, blogs and other media. Besides, you have to consult several sources to get the right data and it is difficult to stay on top of everything.

Being a web developer, I started a side project called cryptoboard.tech that tries to solve those issues by bundling, analysing and visualising collections of data about altcoins from sources such as Twitter, Google and GitHub.

The basic idea is to select a cryptocurrency, whereafter the most recent data is fetched and charts for that currency are rendered.

In this article I will show the four most important charts that are available on the dashboard right now.

Tweet Sentiment Analysis

One of the first charts I made was a bar chart that analyses the sentiments in the latest badge of tweets about a cryptocurrency. I literally search for tweets that mention (the abbreviation of) an altcoin, in this case LTC, and add sentiment scores to them based on a set of expressions that are collected in a database. The chart is updated every fifteen minutes. For some popular coins, such as Ethereum, a whole badge of around 100 tweets can already be completely new every fifteen minutes, for others it can take some hours.
Most of the time the score is positive, because tweets are made by investors or adopters of a cryptocurrency. But it still gives and indication where the price of a coin can be heading.

Google Search Trend compared with the price

As shown by others, there is a very strong corespondency between the Google Search Trend and the price of cryptocurrencies. When you aren’t a day trader and are looking for long term trends this can be a valuable chart. A good strategy would be to step in when the search trend is very low, or when the search trend starts to increase significantly. It can also give an indication when to sell. When creating the search trend chart I always select the weekly trend over a period of a year, and only the platform that I want to show, in this case the Stellar Project.

Tweet History compared with the price

This is the chart I’m most proud off, one I haven’t seen anywhere else yet. It shows three things: the amount of tweets per hour about a cryptocurrency (yellow line), the closing price at the end of that hour (blue line) and the sentiments of those tweets (bars). The corespondency is quite clear, and it can be a helpful tool when you want to know if there’s some activity around a coin or a (short term) trading opportunity.

GitHub Commit History

When trading altcoins, it is important to know where the platform behind it is headed. A very reliable source to look at is the amount of work that is done on the main project. It shows if the project is still active, or if there are no new features introduced at all. Almost every cryptocurrency has a public GitHub repository. Shown in the chart is EOS, and as you can see this project is very active. Development for some other projects is nearly discontinued which is strange when you consider the market cap of millions they sometimes have.

Sixteen cryptocurrencies in total can be selected right now to be shown on the dashboard.

Thanks for reading and please take a look at cryptoboard.tech. It is still under development and completely free to use, but I would really appreciate some feedback and ideas for improvement.
