Walton Blockchain Institute Launch

On 6th of June it was annouced that the Walton Blockchain Institute, a non-profit foundation officially approved and will be (and was) launched on 8th of June.

The Institute was authorized and supported by the Ministry of Science and ICT of the Government of the Republic of Korea. In cooperation with the Korean Standards Association, the Walton Blockchain Institute will launch blockchain-related training courses. Graduates will receive a blockchain expert qualification certificate. The first qualification examinations will be held in the second half of this year.

It will not only train blockchain-related talents, but also provide support and help for startup companies. The institute will provide office space as well as venture capital for startups with innovative ideas. All of this will promote the healthy and sustainable development of the blockchain industry in South Korea and Asia in general.

IOTA's Qubic project details released

On 4th of June IOTA has annouced the details of their upcoming Qubic project.

They explained that Qubic is a protocol that specifies IOTA's solution for quorum-based computations, including such constructs as oracle machines (servers verifying the network), outsourced computations, and smart contracts. A quorum is the minimum number of votes that a distributed transaction has to obtain in order to be allowed to perform an operation in a distributed system.

Qubic provides general-purpose, cloud- or fog-based, permissionless, multiprocessing capabilities on the Tangle. In the long term, Qubic will allow people to leverage world-wide unused computing capacity for computational needs.

The project is super ambitious and shows the potential of the Tangle as a global database of data, computing power and as a connector of all IOT devices.

Vechain public testnet and alliance

The VeChainThor Public Testnet has been released on 8th of June with all of the code being available on Github with over 2k commits and 7 contributors which would indicate a lot of activity

Aditionally on 7th of June under the direct guidance of two government bodies — Shanghai Municipal Commission of Commerce and Shanghai Liquor Monopoly Administration — VeChain, DNV GL, D.I.G., the Business Information Center of Shanghai, and eight other government bureaus and enterprises formed the Shanghai Wine and Liquor Blockchain Alliance

The Shanghai Wine and Liquor Blockchain Alliance aims to establish a cooperative platform for the research and development of alcohol production companies, alcohol trading enterprises, and technology providers in Shanghai, in order to build a solution for the tracing of alcoholic beverages in the municipality.

Bithumb tax audit passed

On 7th of June it was annouced that Bithumb, South Korea’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, has been cleared of all charges related to alleged tax evasion for the year 2017.

The audit reportedly began in January, when the South Korean National Tax Service placed several agents from its Seoul office at Bithumb’s headquarters. Over the course of the next three months, the agents collected data regarding the income that the exchange was receiving.

Coinbase licenses

On 6th of June it was annouced that Coinbase is on track to operate a regulated broker-dealer, pending approval by federal authorities.

This step forward is being made possible by our acquisition of a broker-dealer license (B-D), an alternative trading system license (ATS), and a registered investment advisor (RIA) license.

By securing these licenses Coinbase is aming to be the most trusted way for usersto buy, sell, and use many different types of crypto assets.

Steamlabs accepts cryptocurrency

On 1st of June it was annouced that all Streamlabs broadcasters can now accept cryptocurrency tips via Bitcoin, Ethereum, Litecoin, and Bitcoin Cash as well as more upcoming in the future.

Streamlabs is a popular Twitch streaming app and Twitch (owned by Amazon) is the biggest streaming platform. Streamlabs will use Coinbase as its payment processor, so streamers will need to connect the service to their Coinbase accounts. After streamers have linked their accounts, viewers will automatically have the option to tip using cryptocurrency.

Streamlabs also supports other less popular streaming platforms, including YouTube, Mixer, Facebook LIve, Periscope, and Picarto. The company says that it paid out more than $34 million in tips during Q1. Twitch streamers can also accept cryptocurrency donations by registering as verified publishers on crypto-powered web browser Brave.
