The format of these posts are now being designed to cater to first time readers, as well as regular visitors. Think of this as more like a web page than a blog, which will be regularly updated. This will allow everyone to be able to always find new information without having to go back to old posts. For those who are new to this @famigliacurione profile, Homegrown Crypto began as a blog that I published on Steemit about a year ago in an effort to learn more about the trend of seeking some "passive income" in this cryptocurrency world. Like many Minnows, I was frustrated by how difficult it was to earn STEEM through normal upvoting and posting and wanted to delve into other tokens and coins, while hopefully offering some insights and investment opportunities to those who chose to follow these posts.

This didn't last very long as I quickly discovered how many scams were appearing everyday in the crypto realm. So I took a long break from Steemit to learn more about cryptocurrencies and how to better improve my experience with STEEM.

After some reflection, I came to the conclusion that the best thing to do was to "repay" the Steem Power that was "lent" to me in order to participate on the Steemit platform. So I spent several months slowly building up my own (not delegated) 15 SP through some generous resources that I found along the way in my exploration of this maze of digital money. Not only was I able to "repay" the 15 SP, but I have greatly surpassed it, gaining more voting power and STEEM rewards! And having more Steem Power for hundreds of thousands of Minnows in the STEEM ecosystem makes a huge difference. You see, my original goal was to understand the so-called "Minnow Problem" which still seems to plague this social media experiment.

A lot has changed in a year and I am excited to see how many new opportunities the Steemit community is offering to those who want to transition away from the old models of social networks and financial systems.

I would like to seek some funding to maintain this Homegrown Crypto resource which will offer ideas and suggestions on how to build up your STEEM, STEEM POWER, cryptocurrency portfolio, as well as support those Minnows who are struggling to understand the Steemit system and work towards a truly incentive based experience with this platform.

I would like to raise some funds for the purpose of acquiring more STEEM POWER in order to add more weight to the rewards pool for those who upvote the Homegrown Crypto posts. This STEEM POWER will also be used to upvote other projects that I find interesting and inspiring.

Coinpot: Your Digital Piggy Bank

After months of being away from Steemit, I have returned stronger, wiser and more enthusiastic than ever. I have learned a lot and would like to begin sharing with my followers, and those interested, the insights and successes I have had in these months. I'll try to be brief and to the point.

I believe that as a Minnow one of your first priorities should be to own your Steem Power. If you are an Author, you have to patiently build up a following and support system of curators. If you don't acquire rewards from your post, focus on being a curator. This requires more than 15 SP. Here's how I have been able to achieve this goal over the past several months.

Coinpot is what is known as a microwallet which allows you to collect micropayments from several faucets. This is why I like to refer to it as a "digital piggy bank"! I believe it is the best out there and have been able to gradually increase my Steem Power thanks to this reliable faucet system.

You first need to create an account at https://coinpot.co where you will be able to manage 6 currencies: Bitcoin, Bitcoin Cash, Dash, Litecoin, Dogecoin and an in-house Coinpot Token. I highly recommend that you collect all of them but that you convert them into Litecoin because it is the easiest to transfer into STEEM POWER.

Steemworld

Many new Steemians - also known as Plankton or Minnows - don't take the time to understand the upvote process and waste a lot of their votes. The first thing to do is to monitor your upvote power through the many tools that exist, such as my favorite https://steemworld.org (followed by your username) which gives you all kinds of important stats to work with. By sure to support it's developer @steemchiller

If you only have 15 Steem Power, I would recommend that you do not allow your Upvote Power to fall under 90%. If you are presently under 90% just stop upvoting until your power regenerates. Steemworld provides the time needed to return to 100% so that you can have an idea as to how long it will take to get your full Voting Power back.

I would also like to suggest that you not make the mistake of thinking that if you vote for high paying posts that you will get a curator's reward. Usually when a post has a high $ value, it also has a lot of curators and this means less rewards per curator. Firstly, you should ideally upvote the Authors, Projects and posts you genuinely like, but if you are looking to get small rewards, look for posts that don't have a lot of upvotes but have a good $ value. I can't suggest any figures because I don't know how the mathematics work. Experiment!

Steemdunk

You should consider automatic upvoting through tools like https://steemdunk.xyz which allow you to set the upvote percentage, upvote time and number of upvotes per day. If you are a Minnow with only 15 SP, I would suggest setting the upvote to 100%, the time at 15 minutes and the number of votes per day at either 1 or 2; if you are upvoting a daily post like for example those posted by @steemeum @steem-plus @steemauto or others, I would recommend you setting the upvote limit to 2 per day because certain posts can get skipped if they are published within a 24 hour period. For example, if @steem-plus creates a post at midnight 00:00 and the next post gets published at 23:45 the same day, the second post will not get the upvote. By setting the limit to 2 per day, you are sure to not miss an upvote on the daily posts. If your Upvote Power falls under 90%, reduce the number of Authors you support until you gain more Steem Power! Remember to support @steemdunk in whatever way you can for this great service!

Blocktrades

@blocktrades is a service that allows you to exchange STEEM for other cryptocurrencies. Simply go to https://blocktrades.us and choose, for example, Litecoin in the SEND box and Steem Power in the RECEIVE box and enter your Steemit account name to then generate a Litecoin address. Save that address as you will be able to use it as many times as you like. Also remember to store it as an address for Steem Power only. In the future, if you want to gain STEEM or SBD, you will need to generate different addresses.

If you are using Coinpot you may be ready to begin increasing your Steem Power, as it does not take long to make enough claims to make a withdraw from Coinpot. The minimum withdraw for Litecoin on Coinpot is 200,000 litoshi (0.00200000 LTC) which can be gained in about 4 days or less.
With the above Litecoin address generated you can now go to Coinpot and transfer those Litecoin, which @blocktrades will then convert into Steem Power. You will now be well on your way to further increasing your SP!

Steemeum

@steemeum is an interesting project that I have been testing out over the past few weeks and it has been very rewarding. I still don't quite understand the future of virtual mobile mining but it's an interesting innovation. I'm going to continue to support this project because of the nice rewards I receive in SBD, but also because I am very curious to see where this is going!
