According to anonymous Cheddar sources, Facebook would be planning to launch its own crypto-currency to facilitate payments within the social network and perhaps on other platforms like WhatsApp and Messenger. The vehicle claims that the company created a team of blockchain experts to work on this project, and the company does indeed confirm the team's existence, but not their intentions with the technology.
A strong indication that this blockchain effort could target some payment system or even a criptomoeda is the leader of this team of experts, David Marcus, former president of PayPal.
