Bitcoin may not replace the local currencies in africa, actually it may help in some stability of these currencies.
What we see is a need for a middle man for all the payments.
And in Uganda there are some shops that are accepting bitcoin as payment as i read in one of the posts from @ireneblessing.
It can help trade with other currencies which never used to be easier. The fluctuations have been the source of income for most of these people who are using bitcoin for trades and occasionally storing their funds.
Although it's a risky behavior as some african leaders are cautioning most youths who are engaging in without clear knowledge.

The Bitpesa CEO pulled some insights on the ghanian way of handling bitcoin at the moment.

Some multinational companies engaged in the services of virtual currencies such as Bitcoin and crypto currencies are predicting that Ghana will be the first country on the continent to accept bitcoin as payment scheme.

It's likely that Ghana will be one of the first continents to push the blockchain technology even further. I think it's a good think when most african countries embrace this technology without having to suffer the fear of change with a sudden shift in technology in the whole world.

She observed that the currency can help reduce exchange rate volatilities in African countries by making local currencies stable.

On the bitcoin replacing the dollar in most trades and exchanges in the african countries.
The Ceo of the coinbase also pointed out in one of his tweets some time back.

Many will find this crazy, but I think Bitcoin could surpass the dollar as reserve currency within 10-15 years

But bitcoin has played a very big part in unstable financial systems in most african countries.
One of which is Zimbabwe which from the records experienced one of the highest inflation.
During this period people turned to bitcoin for a value like sort of thing in their currency.

With our fingers crossed many of us are waiting for what bitcoin brings.
We can as well go with this civilization when this happens. Hoping the most concerned issues could be adressed in a clinical way.

As always

That would be extremely useful! My main concern is if they have technology and knowledge to adapt to the currency. Especially the older ones who may already be customed to conservative ways. Great share brother! @tesaganewton

I agree many people are trading bitcoin instead of using it as a currency. This is creating the price fluctuation.

Litecoin (LTC) has a more stable price point.

Maybe this is a better choice for people in Africa. It is the main coin I use when I travel.
