Manganese kidney stones

A rare and intriguing phenomenon.

The little stones with their intricate details are formed naturally by the precipitation and crystallization of manganese and calcium minerals in a small puddle.

The puddle forms in this dolomitic rock during rain. The water in the puddle dissolves the manganese and calcium in the rock, making the cavity progressively deeper but the water evaporates on the hot desert days and the dissolved minerals are then deposited as these awesome little kidney like stones.

This is mysterious. I'm a virgin to such. Where are these images taken @mandela..

I chose to have a look at the photos first. And I really thought it was a photo taken from a height. Specifically the third one, it looks like there is the clay in middle of a sand dune. It's cool maaaaaaaaan!
