The word ratoh in this dance is taken from Arabic which means Rateb, and the word "duek" comes from the Acehnese language itself which means to sit.

Ratoh Duek Aceh Dance is also sometimes called Ratoh Jaroe. This dance describes the meaning taken from everyday life, such as harmony, cohesiveness, optimism, and also firmness. This can be seen from the harmony of the dancers who applaud according to the rhythm.
