May 9th -- Steemit Ramble #155 -- Curating Great Posts for You

in #curation6 years ago (edited)

Looks like the crypto markets are taking a bit of a dip again. Don’t let that discourage you. When you earn STEEM at a lower price, you get to enjoy the increased value when it goes up. So just keep working on creating good content to share.

@ned was interviewed on Bloomberg News the other day. It was interesting to hear one of the questions focus around the quality of the content on the site. We know there are good posts on here and we need to work to bring those to the surface and bury the low quality content.

Projects like the Steemit Ramble work to do that, every little bit at a time. And there are others working toward the same.

What Goes In; What’s Left Out? The Novelist’s Puzzle

I’ve seen @norma-jean’s posts on the platform since she joined. She’s an example of someone putting out consistent work. In this post she talks about the need to first get the story out, then determine what details are relevant to the story when editing it down to it’s final form. Her posts are always an informative read especially if you’re interested in the craft of writing. Anyone who writes posts, should actually be interested in the craft of writing.

The Welcome Wagon is here! Help for new Steemians!

Always interesting to see the seeds which can develop from seemingly unrelated events. You’d not really expect something for new people on the platform being birthed off a Witness chat, but it has happened.

The Welcome Wagon has formed as an initiative working to help new people who are willing to learn how to navigate the platform and start to grow. A great group of veterans on the platform willing to put time and energy into giving a helping hand to those coming behind them.

Questions to Ask Yourself When Writing a Steemit Article

@snowmachine has produced an excellent list of questions for you to use when writing posts on the platform. Reading and thinking about those questions would have many benefits, starting from developing clarity about what you are writing and even if you should be writing that particular post. Interesting list which I’ve added to the Reference section in the Steemit Ramble discord.

The Write Answers Episode 4, Featuring AKSounder and Isaria

@rhondak who is part of the @sircork witness team has a regular radio show on the @steemstarnetwork, Mondays at 4pm EDT. In the first hour she interviews someone from @thewritersblock and during the second hour the focus is on music.

This past Monday was an excellent doubleheader, she interviewed @aksounder, a firefighter from Alaska who has been an important part of The Writer’s Block for some time now. A great interview with him and then followed by one with @isaria and her awesome music. Both interviews were pre-recorded due to them not being able to be available to be on live.

@artemisnorth had to run out to do an errand during the show but wanted to listen to it. So, she listens on her phone but had forgotten her earphones which meant that anyone around her was always hearing the show. She let us know that customers and clerks in the grocery store she was in were loving Isaria’s music as much as we were.

3D house easy in 5 steps

I like art posts which show me the process. This post doesn’t produce a stunning picture, but it has pictures of the process and enough description that a new artist could get the idea of how to draw this 3D house and go on from there to make it a stunning picture.

Down Another "Rabbit Hole"

Apparently, the Steemit Ramble I posted last night sent @thekittygirl down the rabbit hole as she learned even more about the content of one of the posts I had included. I hear @enginewitty and by extension @dreemsteem are the root cause here. @thekittygirl describes how her curiousity about one item led to her exploring several others and she wonders if this happens to others.

Don’t know about the other readers @thekittygirl, but often happens to me. There is just so much to learn and so many ways of finding information.

Morning Pages are Your Key for Ideas and Creativity. Day 6 of 31 Days Writing Challenge

@arbitrarykitten shares with us the concept of morning pages as created by writing coach Julia Cameron. Now this is an interesting writing exercise to try out. It could be particularly helpful in churning up ideas for writing posts. Although becoming increasingly out of vogue, the experience of sitting down with an actual pen in hand and putting thoughts on paper by hand is very different from typing at the keyboard.

Innovative Adventures - imusify: A Steemit for Musicians [Turning up the Blockchain!]

This post was nominated by @thekittygirl who said: “The imusify site/app will launch in July under a NEO Smart Contract model and will pay royalties to musicians with no cutoff "payout period." This post includes details, and a link to the whitepaper, demo, and a beta-version.”

There are a lot of talented musicians on the platform. Another place for them to be able to earn some income for their talent is a great thing. NEO is an established crypto making this an interesting looking project.

Proposal Charity Team #Promo-SteemRural To Overcome Poverty With Steemit

This post was nominated by @dynamicgreentk who said “This is a post from the promo-steemrural team. They are constantly promoting Steemit to their villages in the country of Aceh. However MANY villages do not have computer access. They need help bettering peoples lives in the country still recovering from past wars, tsunamis, and current oil field fires. Please resteem this post as these guys are non stop trying to grow Steemit and improve less fortunate peoples lives through the proof of brain concept Steemit provides us all. They need computers really really desperately.”

In many parts of the world like Aceh, getting access to and learning to use the platform can be life changing. I do hope that those doing the teaching include the importance of original content and copyright in their teaching. It’s important for all new Steemians to learn this.

I was a "willing guinea pig", but it's all worth it!

@evlachsblog writes about her experience when she took @ntowl up on her offer to critique one of her posts during @ntowl’s writing class on the @dynamicsteemians discord. @evlachsblog received the benefit of someone less married to the writing than she was having a look from the viewpoint of an experienced reader and she ended up with a much better post to make.

It can seem intimidating to have someone critique your writing. We get attached to the words we string together, the characters we create and the ideas we share. We know them intimately. We often forget, our readers don’t and it is our readers we need to communicate with. If you go into the process with an open mind and a willingness to consider the suggestions put forth, you can come through it not only with that piece being better, but with knowledge you can apply to future writing.

About the Steemit Ramble

The Steemit Ramble is a manual curation project written by @shadowspub since August 2016. She scours the blockchain to locate and share the best posts so you don't have to. Every day many quality posts disappear on the blockchain leaving their authors frustrated they aren't seen and readers just as frustrated trying to find them. This curation project brings readers and authors together.

How You Can Participate?

As hard as she works, @shadowspub doesn't find all the best. You, as a reader, will find posts that have been missed and really should be seen. You can take a part in bringing these posts to light and earn a share of the post they are published in.

The Steemit Ramble has it's own discord called, Steemit Ramble. Here you can nominate posts you've found and think belong in the Ramble.

How to Nominate a Post

  1. Read How I Manually Curate to give you an idea of what I'm looking for in a post. This covers the formatting, the quality of the writing is just as important.
  2. When you find a post visit the Ramble discord and submit it to the #nominate-someones-post channel by writing a short nomination

It's that easy. I review each submission. Those I select will receive credit for the nomination, their nomination will be part of the entry in the Ramble and they will receive a portion of the SBD earned when the post pays out.

Supporting the Steemit Ramble Curation Project

In addition to reading and upvoting the Steemit Ramble, you can support the project and the authors featured in it by:

  1. Delegating even as much as 25 SP to @steemitramble -- this will increase the voting power of the account when it votes on those curated. Delegating is like loaning me some of your Steem Power so I can vote on others posts with a larger vote.

  2. Join the curation trail on SteemAuto and then join the curation trail. The trail is called Steemit Ramble

Great service you provide for @steemit & the future of @ned vision to improve the platform! Hopefully your noticed and given support!

Thank you so much for featuring my blog post, @steemitramble! If there's anything I love to do (next to writing, that is) it is to encourage other writers. Steemit is giving me the platform to help even more people who have the heart to write, but are, perhaps, lacking in the skills and techniques.

Thanks for featuring my article among this fine compilation!

Yes - we were surprised how that all transpired too!

Just a lot of great discussion that starting lighting bulbs... hehehehe and then - "hey.... I've got an idea! Who's in???"

Love how kindred spirits can join together to become a big force!

Thank you for hosting that Witness chat - and looking forward to the next one @shadowspub!!!! I appreciate you giving us some extra attention as we "circle our wagons" :)

~@dreemsteem, for the Welcome Wagon ;)

WoW, thank you for doing this. You're doing a great job. I love seeing people go above and beyond for the Steemit community

This is a very nice work you do!

Thank you @steemitramble for including my post. I really appreciate your time reading my blog and manually curating it. It is what you, among many others, do that encourages the rest of us to strive to produce quality content. Thank you so much.
