A School For The Human Heart

How would we be, as a world, as a society, as a collectivity, as individuals, if the education system taught us how to use our hearts?
On one hand, the practice of meditation should be introduced as early as in elementary school, as I believe it is a life changing practice that can only benefit a child more and more as he grows up.
Secondly, schools should instill in us from a young age the importance of not only following our own heart in life, but of using it gently and softly. It is at the core of our being for a reason. We can’t live without it. We can’t love without our heart. We can’t feel empathy for others without it. It was not only given to our bodies solely to make us stay alive – it is there to make us use it with the most precious of care.
The moment we come into this world, our heart, body and soul are each intact. With each passing day, they will become less so, as we will come to experience, little by little, the full range of human emotions. While we may be very young then to consciously realize it, each micro hurt we will experience will shape us into the future human we will eventually become.

Yesterday, I received a very special message. It came from someone I had only spoken to a limited number of times. I did not expect the conversation with this person to get as profound and personal, but it did. This very sweet human opened up to me about certain traumas that stem from her/his own childhood. Being a very sensitive person by nature, it touched me deeply. Even more so, when this person made it seem as if it wasn’t that much of a deal. The person said to me '' Wow let it go. It’s not that bad if I’m still here today. '' My stomach dropped as I heard those words. But most of all, it made me realize something incredibly important. That a huge number of us have not learned how to heal our hearts from all the pain that it has endured. Unless we have undergone consistent professional therapy or found interest into learning more about the field of psychology – and chose to embark on a healing journey, we may still be carrying profound wounds, or even worse, we may have buried them. Unfortunately, doing so is self-destructive for our own person because it is only a matter of time until this past unhealed hurt will ooze out of our heart again.

I hate to say it, but I think it is a safe thing to say that parents with a healthy heart are becoming more and more rare in today’s world. The saddest part in all of this, is that a lot of kids who were raised by toxic parents don’t see their parents that way. Sadly, if these kids one day choose to have children of their own, they ought to pass on to them the same unhealed wounds that their own parents gave them. This is one of the main reasons as to why it is crucial that in today’s day and age, education has to become the platform that comes to the rescue to change things around. The truth is that it is vital that the education of the heart makes its place into our schooling system. Instilling in the generation ahead essential virtues such as empathy, kindness, healthy love, and teaching them how to express and process pain and emotions in a healthy way is no longer a luxury, it has become a necessity. If we want to increase our chances of building a more loving and healthy world, this is where it all starts.
My greatest aim would be to keep this very important conversation going.

To your heart, 💓
