Promoting Cyclists with Leased Steem Power

in #cycling4steemit6 years ago (edited)

I said I wouldn't write about Steemit and yet here I am writing about Steemit. I have seen some organized groups in many categories on here, but not quite as much in cycling. There have been some but I haven't seen much activity lately. Yet there are a lot of cyclists on here doing cool things. We have cyclists doing daily training, going out for casual rides, touring cyclists, mountain bikers, etc. I guess it's in the nature of long term touring to not be able to post as often as people just riding around town. But there are a bunch of us posting about how much we love cycling.

I don't think I necessarily want to organize any sort of page or Discord group myself. I don't even like chat rooms anyway. But despite it's lack of exposure, the cycling community is the first one I gravitated to on here.

I tried bidbots and they gave me some exposure. I gravitated away from them to using Minnowbooster to get votes. I don't want to just boost all my posts above all the other cycling posts though. I want to spread the votes out over all cyclists. The only way to do that and hopefully break even seems to be to lease steem power. I am currently leasing 3000 SP. Trying to do the math is difficult as the amount of a vote is a mix of SBD, Steem and Steem Power. I need to upvote my own posts a few times a day to maybe hopefully recover what I spent. I know some Steemians don't like it but I swear no matter what you do, somebody will get mad that you didn't use Steemit the exact same way as them. But I'm giving out more votes than self-votes. I never give any kind of self-vote without giving curators a couple hours to vote first. Each morning I'm looking at cycling posts and giving out upvotes. Cycling4steemit tags come first. Smaller percentages go to posts of just pictures, but closer to 100% VP for great detailed posts, longer rides and cyclists currently on tour. A few of you are receiving automated posts from Steemvoter.com but might get cycled out on occasion for other Steemians.

So, maybe I will lose steem. I hope not. Hopefully everyone who likes to post about cycling upvotes other cyclists and hopefully it'll all come back around to each of us. Maybe we can get cycling4steemit or cycling on the top tags some day.

Couldn't agree more!

What you do is so great! We need to push each other, upvote and follow the riders and project! I’m not using cycling4steemit, I will used in the future! If you want check my channel on dtube or my steemit blog, I’m doing a “cycling series”, a training videos for a project in the next year, my girlfriend @ela.muds a friend @makuain and I. A Tavel around south America to the Patagonia. I hope you like it! Greetings from Uruguay and Argentina! @robmolecule ! Don’t worry you will recover your sbd in the long term I’m sure! See you around buddy! :)

As mentioned previously. I like the fact that you upvote other cyclists and following in your footsteps (or tyre tracks) I have started doing the same. We are an already small micro-community within Steemit, it is good to get together and support each other.

Cheers Rob!

Thanks. I generally follow cyclists and film reviews. I upvote other stuff as well, but the majority goes to cyclists.

Cheers to that! I was so surprised to discover dedicated cyclist here as it's a small group of people compared to say music lovers. Let's make a community here.

Yes!! Agreed, me too!

You do an amazing job Rob! Thank you.

We should have a Discord channel or maybe I'll propose to open a chat room on the Steem Travellers where we could all exchange experiences. It would be amazing to have a place to concentrate our efforts, to ask questions about bikes or even share our adventures. Reunited it becomes easier to spread the bike word.

I'd like to be able to upvote our fellow cyclists but my VP is draining incredibly fast.

Thanks. I'm not a huge chat room person but maybe it's just that the channels I've been invited to on Discord aren't based on anything I want to talk about. But one for questions about bikes would actually be useful. And we would all be cyclists.

Exactly, I'll talk with some guys and see if we can arrange that. Aren't there any chat's for cyclists only?

I don't know. I didn't really explore the discord channels too much. It was a little overwhelming with each channel having multipls chatrooms and rules. And I really never spend much time in chatrooms anyway.

Yeah, I've tried some of them but they were kinda messy. I only use the Steemit Travellers, it's simple.

AH btw I've got a room there called Cycling, I just don't know how I'll spread the word. The idea is to have a place where we can discuss bike related stuff without being too formal.

It's the Steemit Traverllers Discord channel - It's travel related but as I think bikes are part of the traveling subject I though it would be cool to create that.

I am still new to Steemit and don't understand how delegation, leasing SP and bots work. May I ask you what do you mean exactly when you say you are leasing out your Steem Power? Is that the same as delegation? How about bots? What is your experience with them so far? Do you have to send them money to get rewarded with upvotes? Wouldn't that be considered cheating?

Leasing SP is paying someone to delegate SP to you for a set length of time. You can bid on votes from bots but if too many people bid, you will lose money. Minnowbooster and Smartsteem are better vote sellers because unless the price of Steem drops, you should get a little more back than you paid. There are people who think you shouldn't do anything with the steem currency apparently. But I've seen people criticize others for using bidbots while simultaneously using leased SP to upvote their own comments on someone else's post. The thing is that upvotes are worthless unless someone has money invested in the platform. A lot of the value of steem as a cryptocurrency is driven by it's use in the Steemit economy. You can just write posts and get SBD if people like your writing, but the rewards come from inflation. Steemit lets those who have invested Steem, in Steem Power, decide where those rewards go. The website allows them to sell the votes, so they do. Somebody has to invest money for anybody to get rewards. We can all upvote each others posts all day but unless any of us has steem invested, it's not going to add more than a few pennies to a post. Some people go on discord chats and get on curation trails that include people with a lot of voting power. That's a big part of it too. People with a lot of voting power aren't just spending all day looking for best well-written posts of the day. They want people to join their curation trail so they can get high curation fees. It's all fine to me. I just think they shouldn't act like their way is the only right way to use steemit.

My own opinion is just not to be completely selfish about it. We all came here because we heard you can make money posting on a blog. I want to work together with others in the same community.

Thanks for the reply. It made things clearer. I think I will just stick to the basics and write about my travel. I am passionate about it so there is lots of motivation. Recently I also started to write short stories into a novel.

I'm not a cyclist man but i really adore the idea of helping each other, you share the same passion so to grow together you should definitely help each other.

For me i hope one day i found some groups who are interesting in art so that we can't help each other, but as i can see I'm curating from my side more than what i receive, though it remains great to see others posts and get inspired.

Ah another thing, i don't recommend you to use MB for now, try postpromoter or buildawhale in a positive ROI

I've tried bidbots and they don't seem worth it due to people overbidding at the last minute. MB is no-bid so you get a guaranteed return, provided the price of steem doesn't go down before the 1-week payout. Bidbots can be useful if you put in big bids early on as it gets the attention of people looking for curation payouts.

You can only do the same, wait until the last minutes and if it's a +10% ROI you bid (the same as i do)
But MB at the meantime doesn't provide a profitable return!

MB used to be best service when the steem price was up, but now (if you make a simple calculation) you will find that it's not a profitable return at all!

It works out fine when I calculated it. Sometimes it broke even but usually it's still a 10-15% ROI. Everyone lost out on sliding payouts while the price was going down. I'm on the whitelist so I think I get a slightly higher ROI from MB. Waiting until the last minute for a bidbot doesn't guarantee anything if everybody is doing the same thing. If I use them at all I prefer to bid early and big so that the post gets pre-advertising for people looking to curate a soon to be popular post.

I think that the revenue is different fir the whitelisted people, if so this will be good for you and yes doing the same as everyone doesn't guarantee anything but still a (risky) profitable way for people like me :(

If it works for you, go for it. I just prefer MB for myself. I am focusing on certain posts for promotion now though. I mean there's no way to get my film reviews seen unless I promote as much as all the other reviewers. With cycling posts, I end up suppressing all the other posts in the category if I upvote it too much, and I don't want to do that.

I made my calculation, it's profitable for both of us :(

Lets go, u sent 2.5 in return u get 4.7
4.7× 75% ÷2 = 1.76 in sbd and 1.76÷2.3(the current steem price)=0.76 in steempower

So 1.76+0.76= 2.52
2.52-2.5= 0.02 im profit!

I've never calculated it that way. I've gone by the amount of SBD and sp before and after buying votes. Then converted the SP to SBD, subtracted 25% and compared that to what I spent. It's usually been about 10% more. But now you have to factor steem and SP into it.
