What skills do parents need to bring? What qualities should they ideally have? What would a job description look like if you had to fill a parent job with the best candidate or the best possible candidate? I have some thoughts on the subject and came to an unexpected conclusion ...
Of course, each one of us knows the job descriptions from online exchanges or newspapers (yes, they still exist) of finding a new job: young, dynamic, with a comprehensive education, additional knowledge in important areas and a lot of experience - that is searched there. A few days ago, I thought about what a job description would look like for the job as a parent. After all, the demands on parents are enormous - the job is actually not comparable to any job - and the responsibility is extremely high. If in doubt, it is actually about the life and death of a small person. What qualities, skills and knowledge do couples ideally have to bring with them to qualify for parenting?

responsibility
To raise a child is probably the most responsible activity imaginable. A gross error - or even negligence - can lead to serious accidents.
reliability
Equally important is to perform its task reliably every day - without any hope of gratitude, payment or adequate recognition of the service provided.
stress resistance
The life of parents can be very stressful. You must not let yourself be disturbed and must always keep track.
A certain ability to suffer
Parenting is often about biting your teeth and forgoing things - sleep, the usual standards of hygiene or order, money, peace or privacy - and without major discomfort. They would usually bring nothing anyway. Who should one turn to?
Good mood
Despite all the stress and adversity, parents should show their children a positive attitude - and never get really angry.
Management Skills
Parents are constantly facing new challenges. Here it is important to help yourself to know and to solve the upcoming tasks - alone or with the help of third parties.
teamwork
Children change a partnership. It is essential for parents to find solutions to the daily challenges that both can live with. Here is often a good culture of debate is needed. In addition, one should represent the children towards a consistent line in education.
empathy
The ability to empathize with others - especially your own children - is essential for parents.
patience
Almost nothing in life with children happens quickly - at least, nothing good. In the game and in terms of the learning progress of the kids - be it food, mobility, crafts or dressing - parents should bring more than a little patience.
flexibility
As a parent, you have to be able to react quickly to the unexpected - be it a small mishap, a changing mood of the kids, or an unexpected change in the weather.
serenity
The ability to keep up with all the hustle and bustle and not get frustrated - closely related to patience and stress resistance.
The ability not to be the center of attention yourself
People who feel they need to be the center of attention usually do not make good parents. It is not always easy for them to stand back and give their children the space they need. Children should be the stars in their own lives, the parents important supporting actors (the English term is even better: "supporting cast").
humor
A certain amount of humor and a little self-irony are important for parents to avoid the frustrations that often arise. As well as a positive attitude towards life and the ability to be unforgiving.
Advanced knowledge in education, cooking, psychology, crisis management, finance and medicine
Yes, that would be listed in a job description for parents - because that is expected of them quite naturally.

It is almost impossible for an individual to meet all the demands made on parents. It's important that parents make that clear and come to the conclusion that they are simply doing their best. No one can expect more.
