Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 01/06/19> Well; another case of bait and switch … now I’m pissed.

in #dailydose5 years ago (edited)

I have said...

I have said more than once that I like doing business with brick and mortar stores even though I might end up paying slightly more for an item. There is something about being able to pick the item up and feel it. Also to look at it and make sure it is what you want and that it matches if you are trying to replace an existing item.

I didn't really...

I didn’t really have a subject to talk about for today until the wife brought the mail in from out at the road and the two replacement battery chargers I bought for my old drawing computer showed up in the mail. Now this is the first time I have purchased from this company I found online named ChargerBuy.com and rest assured it will be my last. Unlike the church, I have no family ties to this company.

Back a long, long...

Back a long, long time ago Dell Computers made some of their computers with a really funky style plug in end adapter for the power supply. The old Dell Inspiron 4100 computer that has my drawing software on it has that style of plug in adapter connection. The cord on my original charger has frayed and the thing will barely work if you hold it just right to keep the wires from shorting against each other, it needed replaced for sure, the last thing I want to happen is the power supply short out and guzbuck the computer.

So I went...

So I went online and with a Google search for, “replacement power supply Dell Inspiron 4100” I found ChargerBuy.com and clicked on their advertisement for the charger I was looking for. Plain as day the picture shows that exact funky looking plug and that add clearly states “Dell Inspiron 4100 AC adapter” the price was $9.99. At that price I almost wondered if this was a used item but it is not; it is just a cheap piece of crap from China.

The description on the webpage calls it as being “ Replacement Dell Inspiron 4100 Laptop Battery Charger AC Adapter 70Watt 20V 3.5A “

The description described...

The description described exactly what I was looking for and the picture looked exactly like the one I have that came with the computer so I went ahead and placed an order for two of them since I already knew these were hard to come by.
Also on that web page it had “Compatible Brands: Dell”, that would tell me that this is specifically for Dell brand laptops and no others since no other brands are listed.

Finally I had ...

Finally, I had found what I was looking for, the last I thing I wanted to buy was one of those generic replacement transformers with all those damn different plug style adapters that never seem to fit right after two or three uses. Plus those never plug in all the way to make a flush clean connection or at least the ones I have gotten never have made a good clean connection.

I put off doing...

I put off doing a couple drawing until these new chargers would arrive, like I said , I didn’t want to screw up this computer as I can’t get that same drawing program any longer. So I need to protect that computer as best I can.

So, when the package arrived and I opened up the priority mail envelope I had two individual packages inside both were SKU:111-96081-05 that didn’t mean anything to me until I opened up the first adapter package to find out I had been guzbucked by ChargerBuy.com , they had sent me a universal style adapter with the dreaded rack of eight different plug end adapters and a variable output transformer. The last thing I wanted was exactly what I had gotten, and not only did I get one; the second package was the same.

My invoice from...

My invoice from Chargerbuy.com shows the part # as sku: 111-060006-01-14 and that is not what I received. I would say that this is an honest mistake but in my mind I know that isn’t the case, it clearly is a matter of bait and switch.

There was no communication from ChargerBuy.com that they were out of stock and substituting the generic one for the item that was pictured. This charger I opened says 90 watts of power and for all I know that right there might be enough to cause some issues. The Dell factory adapter says 70 watts of power.

ChargerBuy.com makes some...

ChargerBuy.com makes some promises on their website and there are four of them. I don’t know whether or not they ever read their own promises but I did; and I find them to breaking promise number 3 for starters, “We promise to give you detailed product information and photo galleries”. I for some reason expect that information to be accurate, but I see now when re-reading it that it doesn’t say anything about being “accurate” so maybe they haven’t broken that promise.

Promise number four...

Promise number four though I know they have broken and there is no way around that promise as it states, “We promise to deliver orders anywhere with speed and precision.” . The word “precision” to me does mean with accuracy and when I received the wrong or different SKU number power supplies their precision is lacking.

It really pisses...

It really pisses me off that I wasted a full week waiting for the correct adapter only to be supplied something I could have gone down and purchased at Best Buy or even WalMart perhaps. I have enough trouble getting everything I need to get done accomplished and I had time in that week do work on drawings but wanted to be as safe as I can in protecting that computer.

So now I...

So now I have fired off a letter to their customer service department expressing my displeasure and that I want to return these two and get the chargers that I purchased. So I’ll keep you informed as that plays out.

Speaking of playing...

Speaking of playing out; today the TeamUp poker series is supposed to resume over on SPL. Last week the tourney had to be cancelled due to technical problems with the site. It seems that someone might have had some aces up their sleeves and well… or maybe it was something else. Either way it is fixed and so I look forward to getting back to playing that tournament series again.

You all have a great Sunday.
Until next time.

I hate stuff like that! It makes me wonder if they even have what you're looking for, but instead own a warehouse full of the junky things that you received, and they just send those out blindly to anyone who orders anything!

I'll be curious if you hear from customer service :)

I heard from CS and they said they would have the one I ordered in 30 days and would contact me then, so we will see.

"but look we sent you more"
If I wanted more I would have ordered more!

why I hate shopping online too but sometimes it's the only choice.

Hope you get what you ordered soon!!

Thanks, chances are I won't get want I actually am wanting unless I find a used one or some company that has some new "old stock" that they are trying to get rid of.
The fact is I did want more, that is why I ordered two. Of course I thought I was getting what was pictured when I ordered those two.

Very annoying. I'm sure they'll take them back. I think many firms realise that only one in ten people will actually bother to ask for a refund, so they can get away with this kind of thing.

Well taking them back is all well and good but there is one problem and that happens to be what they are doing is against the law here in the US and they have committed a federal crime by using the mail to ship the goods.
Taking my money over the internet is also wire fraud so while I can forgive them I don't know that the federal prosecutors would if I just happened to send them the information to look at and see if they would want to press charges against this company.
It may be all fine and good for the folks over at ChargerBuy.com as most people wouldn't even think about it, but I am thinking about it, I won't decide until they respond back to me.
I expected to get what their picture showed and what I got wasn't that. So they may just need a wake up call on how to conduct business ethically.

Against the law? Yes, worth reminding them of that. I don't think it's a crime here, though it would violate the Trade Descriptions Act. But I'm not sure if it would be prosecuted under criminal law, unless it was considered deliberately misleading.
Supermarkets are known for delivering the wrong goods to online shoppers - if they're sold out of a product, they'll just send something else. It seems to be common practice. As long as they offer a refund when the customer complains, no one seems to bother much about it, beyond a few grumbles.

Well the government is always looking to extract money from people and companies so that is why they have all these laws ; so they can catch the law breakers and then haul them into court and fine them. So I may just end up being an "informant" if they don't make things right with me.

Just hardly anything pisses me off worse than the old bait and switch. Just makes me completely wild.

I have a somewhat newer Dell laptop and have used Dell desktops for a long time. The last two I bought from Dell Refurb and got great prices.

Do you have a raggedy ass computer shop nearby? I have two that work on lots of old and abused computers (I know one guy. He spends most of his day cleaning computers for people that just can't quit clicking on links and get so full of viruses that they just quit functioning. Makes a living at it) Anyway, a lot of them have a 'better used' stack of stuff laying around. You might get lucky and get a gennie Dell piece.

I have a box full of the adapter ends for one reason or another (one of the reasons is my long term fascination with auxiliary batteries) and I just hate them.

I am stone cold sure that somebody makes the charger you seek. Just cause a manufacturer has quit servicing an item doesn't mean that nobody uses them and that they need parts...

A quick check on EBay seems to show a company named ChargerPlanet out of the UK that handles the dedicated charger for about $30.

I wonder if you could call Dell Customer Support and ask them? Hell, you are close enough to the home of Dell to go in and ask them... It's in Texas, anyway.

Well, sir. I hope this doesn't upset your gentle Sunday routine too much.

Yes, I am quite close to the home of Dell as they are located just north of Austin on I-35, in fact I have been on their "campus" as they call it and I have been to Michael Dell's house over in Austin. His house sits up on a big hill and has armed guards with machine guns protecting the place. It is easier to get into the FBI building in Victoria, Texas than it is to get onto the Dell family property in Austin I can assure you of that since I have been to both places.
I will look at ChargerPlanet but the picture on ChargerBuy showed the dedicated charger and even showed it as only compatible with Dell. So I guess it is true; you can't believe everything you see or read on the internet.
I think I will expand more on laptop chargers tomorrow for a Daily Dose, I have a couple ideas and have had them for a while, it is time to share those.

That is soooo frustrating, @sultnpapper. I hope that they do, in fact honour their implied promises...
Stopping by from #steemitbloggers.... ;)

Thanks Fiona, I think their promises are a little more than "implied" those are stated on their website so they should honor them.
They have responded back to the first email to them telling me what they sent me will work, but that isn't my complaint. I want what I ordered and not have to worry about voltages and keeping track of small little adapters.
We'll see and I'll keep you all informed.

I agree with you. That is precisely the point. I wait to hear how it pans out

I apologize for the late reply, they did get back with me and said that they will have what I want in 30 days, in the mean time I am using one of the universal ones , but I don't like the way it connects and sticks out so far.
They haven't said exactly how they want to handle the return or if they are going to charge me, but I assume they will want too.

This is so recognazible I think customers service is the one thing that can be done so much better and I also always sent a mail or letter When something can be done better.

They have heard from me and responded that they sent me "better" than what I ordered. Well I don't think so and I have asked them to correct the error in their judgement of just switching my order to what was convenient for them. We'll see what happens and let you know. Thanks for weighing in here today, very much appreciated.

At least they did respond, i ordered two helmets voor skiing its a law now that you have to wear them, they came in damaged still waiting for new ones. Everything Goes by mail, no human contact to tell my complaint. So frustrating

Man (woman) that is frustrating as hell, at least this outfit is responding to email and they have a phone number, but I haven't bothered to call. I would rather have the communications in writing.

writing is also proof!

Ah man . This post made me laugh more than any post on here today 😂😂😂.
Especially this sentence !!
The last thing I wanted was exactly what I had gotten, and not only did I get one; the second package was the same.
Brilliant. I can sense your disgruntlement from Ireland 😂😂😂

If disgruntlement and pissed off are the same thing then you have got good senses about you all the way over there in Ireland.
Well. in fact I know you do have good senses, you do read the Daily Dose so that right there is proof enough.

I’m loving this daily dose. It’s great stuff. I read it with a Texas accent as well.
