Daily Dose of Sultnpapper 11/27/18> The nerve of some people… challenging me?

in #dailydose5 years ago

I am not big...

I am not big on doing these challenge things that get passed around on here, I actually am turned off by them. If it wasn’t for the fact that the person who challenged me is such a loyal supporter of the Daily Dose and good friend I would just blow it off and move on.

So; now I have...

So; now I have to come up with ten random things about me and share them with you folks. The question is; do I begin early in life and work forward or do I start from today and work backwards? Or, I could just start in the middle and work back and forth too. Maybe I’ll just screw around and not do it in any particular time line at all.

So let’s just see how it goes...

#10.) The best man at my wedding was eight years old and was not a relative of mine or my wife. His Dad was an usher in the wedding party too.

#9.) In fifth grade I was forced to change classes because I refused to pronounce the teachers name properly. This is worth explaining too. The teacher was named Mrs. Beres, pronounced “bear- ess “ but being the smart ass that I was I would pronounce it “bare ass” and after a couple weeks of that, it was all she could take and had me moved to Mrs. Jones class. I didn’t much care for Mrs. Beres, to begin with and so my plan was to get out of her class and it worked.

#8.) I have been on the ABC national morning show Good Morning America on two separate occasions and not just standing in the background holding a sign, but as part of a featured segment.

#7.) In grade school the local police came to my school on three different occasions to question me regarding alleged crimes I supposedly committed.

There was a neighbor who just really didn’t like me and he was doing his best to try and get me in trouble with the law. No charges were ever filed against me, but they damn sure should have filed them against that old man for harassing me with the police visits.

#6.) My two oldest children have had more birthdays than me.

#5.) Back in the early 1980’s I was thrown out of the country known as Canada and told never to return. It is too damn cold up there anyway so it didn’t bother me one damn bit that they don’t want me back there.

#4.) I was an early investor in the internet before there even was an internet back in the mid 1980’s when I purchased 12,500 shares of a company named America Online for $500.00 USD.

#3.) The longest practical joke I have been involved in on pulling on someone lasted for well over a full year and I wasn’t the person who got the joke started in the first place.

#2.) I have been involved in several types of automobile racing when I was younger working on the crews for cars competing in NHRA, NASCAR, INDY CAR, ARCA, WORLD OF OUTLAWS, and ASA. Plus, I even raced some asphalt and dirt track stock cars as well myself.

#1.) My favorite sport to compete in is cutting horses, but I am sure most of you thought it would be poker.

I am even going...

I am even going to throw in a bonus since I am in a good mood, which is rare for me when doing these challenge things.

#0.) I was invited to the wedding of Julia Roberts and Lyle Lovett back when they got married in June of 1993. I passed up going to the wedding because I don’t like flying on small private jet airplanes. I stayed home that weekend and went to the stock races at the local dirt track.

So there you have...

So there you have some randomness from the old man and some of these may have been known previously to some of you and some have never been told on here until now.

Also you folks know...

Also, you folks know how much I hate rules so I will not nominate anyone to do this challenge; I nominate everyone who reads this to do it. So get writing and share some of your randomness.

Until next time,
@sultnpapper

KIcked out of Canada ... did you try to ride a moose or something?

No I didn't ride a moose or even attempt to ride one. The girl I was with at the time brought some weed with her and we ended up getting stopped for a traffic violation and they found her weed. So they threw us both out of the country and told us never to come back.

no small amount of irony that what you were tossed out for .. is now legal. So wonder if the expulsion stands?

I have no desire to go back there, it is to far north and far to cold for me. In my mind it does still stand, they haven't sent me an invite to come back.

I rather expect you're not on their radar to send an invite to ... and cold... only during certain months

I am not checking the mail each week in anticipation of an invite. To me anything below 70 degrees F is in the area of cold , so I have a feeling there would be more cold months for me than not. That incident happened in August of that year and I remember putting on my goose down jacket in the evenings because the temps were down around the mid 50's after the sun went down.

I always love reading your "I'm not a blogger/writer/interesting person posts!!! so many questions and no answers. Well Done!!!

On top of that, you made @enchantedspirit happy and life doesn't get any better than that!!

Hope you are well!!

Thanks Snook. I am just an old man telling his stories, that's all. I don't think at @enchantedspririt said she was happy with me, I think she said she was tired of me and created a shortcut key; that could be a big difference, even a game changer.
I am doing the best I can and pretty well, thanks for well wishes and your support.

You got us there, forgot about corn on the cob! My late brother would not let any veg near his mouth but chips and corn, you're even more fussy with not having boiled corn!
You've told us random things about yourself but typically have left more questions!
Who was the best man or rather what was the eight year old's connection or was he also born on the same day of the year as you?
So I know why your children have had more birthdays than you because you told us about it before but you just love teasing us ;)
Trust the Mr Papper to harass the teacher like that, poor woman! What did she do to you?
I'm sure mrs Papper must have been mad at you passing up going to a celeb wedding?
Not surprised you enjoy stock car racing, I had a crazy friend who loved it, every weekend would be spent at the racetrack. She taught me to drive back when I had my learner's licence, not stock cars though, I'm too much of a ninny for that!
Glad you took on @natubat's challenge, it was real interesting!

You ask good questions Lizelle and some of them I will answer in some future Daily Doses, but I will answer one right now.
Mrs. Bare Ass didn't do anything to me, I just could not stand her voice, it was a pain to my ears; especially because she was constantly calling me out in class with it.
I love roasted corn, especially roasted on a mesquite fire.

Poor mrs Bare Ass being born with a voice like that & then to end up with that surname, you are so funny mr Papper :):)

This shows exactly why I'm a big supporter of the Daily Dose - you always get something special and unexpected! And this one had me in stitches! Poor Mrs Bare Ass - honestly, if I was a teacher and I had a name like Beres I would change it!
I'm guessing your birthday is on Feb 29th (3 days after mine in fact).
I won't ask why you were thrown out of Canada, but you've certainly had an interesting life! I don't know many people who were invited to Julia Roberts's wedding or who don't like flying in Lear jets, but I'm glad I asked you to do this challenge :)
I'm not usually keen on challenges myself, but this one was fun.

Yes, I tried to keep for pointing the finger at who did it and you come right out and expose yourself. It was fun and it was more entertaining than if I had written something else about which I have no clue would have been last night.
I didn't do the proper tags and that stuff, some rules are meant to be ignored or broken and I do both.
My birthday is in fact the 29th, Leap Year.
I told @snook why I got thrown out,( I think it was her), but anyway somewhere in these replies I am doing now, that reason is explained.

I'm quite happy to be outed on this subject, and I'm glad it was the veggies that got you going - haha!

I bet you are happy to be outed on this, not many people can get me to do things I don't like to do.

Absolutely! It's a small victory :)

Well well. Like you I don't do the challenge thing very well, mostly 'cause I don't like calling attention to myself.

My Uncle Del was a leap year guy, we celebrated our 10th birthday the same year. I was amazed and can still figure every leap year in my head.

Mrs. Bare ass would have been just too much for me, too. Even if I liked her...

I didn't ride formal competitions, but I owned a pretty good cutter and rode haze quite a little. Good as I was at most throwing sports I seemed to could never quite get the hang of a rope.

I got a guy that I'll fly with in any circumstance including small jet. First time I flew was when he uhhhh borrowed his dad's 173 Cesna for an afternoon. He ended up owning 3 Gulfs that he flew and leased. He also owned the race team that I worked on. NHRA and IMSA. We also raced AHRA and what ever Billy Meyer was calling his deal there in Texas. Billy Meyer had DEEP pockets. I've worked on some stock cars, but always on a contract basis, never on a team.

Your connection with AOL was better than mine. I loved that they sent me a couple of CDs per week. They worked perfect to use as a 'foot plate' for parking a motorcycle on a soft surface. I was involved in the innerwebs before it was called the internet. It was the 'intra net' then.

I have a good friend that PNG'd in Canada too. That's probably a story that Cleo will tell one day. He was actually PNG in the US at the same time.

Well, my friend, I'm glad you took the challenge. I've already promised the same challenger that I'll do it, maybe as soon as today.

Thank you.

I couldn't do your comment justice this morning as I had limited time so I ended up saving it for the evening replies.
I have the same feeling when it comes to telling things about myself. So I have shied away from these challenges and such, plus I have never liked having to drag others in on them.
If @natubat and @lizelle hadn't gone down the potato chip road in there comment about me I would have probably just left it alone. (Funny how certain things can trigger me)So I answered that question and then said. "what the hell, I don't have anything better to write tonight" and that is how I roped myself in.
Speaking of throwing ropes, I never have been good at throwing a rope either. But I have won a bunch of money in roping back years ago. I ran around with some guys that roped and one particular guy named Eddie Floyd Pearson was a left handed header that was always short on entry money. Damn good with a rope and a great horse, I would put up his portion of the entry and we would split his share of the winnings, very seldom I wouldn't at least double my money and never had to throw one loop.
I did the competitions in the cutting and enjoyed it, never won much money but always had a good time. The last time I competed at a big show was the NCHA Cutting Horse Futurity in Fort Worth, TX in 1988.
The little mare I was riding was in heat and she was a bitch that week. I didn't make it past the first go round. That was a big entry fee wasted for sure. The cutting horse game is for the rich folks and I quit cutting in 1990 for good when I sold that mare . I still enjoy watching a good cutting horse work cattle and the best seat in the house is on the back of one for sure.
I had my fill of small jets when I flew from Memphis to Lake Charles to go to cutting down there. It was just me and the pilot so I was right next to him looking out the front. Couldn't see a guzbucking thing once we got 15 minutes south of Memphis. About half way there, the radar was solid red on the screen and we hit bad weather, at one point we lost 1,000 in altitude in the blink of eye it seemed.
It was a rough ride from there, the airport at Lake Charles had been closed because of bad weather by the time we reach there and the pilot wasn't going to go anywhere but there so we circled until the weather broke enough for the FAA to reopen the airport. I was sick as dog by the time we landed, never puked, but I damn sure wanted too.
I couldn't even go to the coliseum that night to watch the cutting let alone ride a horse. I swore that I would never fly in a small jet or plane after that and so far I kept that promise.
I ended up riding back to Memphis after the weekend with with my girl friend at the time, she drove the truck and trailer hauling the horses back. There wasn't any amount of money you could have paid me to get back on the plane.
You have some interesting facts too I am sure and I look forward to reading those. Now I have to see if I can crank out a Daily Dose, it is damn near 10:00PM already and I have work in the morning.

I'm not sure which one I like the best @sultnpapper, you have certainly lived an interesting life! Your poor teacher..I bet she was glad to get rid of you. She would have had to put up with you for a full 9 months...whew! Glad you shared with us. All so fun, you were definitely pretty feisty from a young age! :)

I have two older brothers so I learned feisty before I learned to even walk.
That teacher was surely happy when the school moved me from her class, the only interaction I had with her after that was when she had playground duty of watching the kids at lunch time. I made it a point to stay away from her just so I wouldn't have to hear her voice.
Plus she did her best to stay away from me, since she knew I would be polite and call her by her name when speaking to her.

Actually, the Internet existed in the 1980s — it was invented in the 1960s, but was strictly for use only by US government agencies, the military, and universities in those days. It de-regulated, slowly, in the late-1980s and early-1990s. So, if you invested in AOL back in the 1980s, you had a lot of foresight! Bravo! 😃

Not being a Texan nor even have yet to set foot on Texas soil, I had to look up "cutting horses" to see what it meant. I figured it didn't involve a knife, but couldn't imagine what it was... 😂

I'm glad you did this challenge, too! It's a great way to learn a bit more about each other and it fosters a greater sense of community! Thanks for participating! 😁

The foresight was good, even though the investment wasn't. It was started by a bunch of crooks, who bankrupted the initial company and then moved the operation to Virginia and launched the AOL that became the AOL that became very successful and made several people millionaires. I ended up just losing $500 in the deal and have a worthless piece of paper.
Cutting horses are used to separate a cow from the herd of cattle.
I am glad I did too and it looks like I might just have to do some explaining of some of these in some Daily Doses.

Well thank you very much for informing me and I wish you well with your project. I wasn't familiar with it but I did go take a look and it appears I am in with some good folks I recognize in there.
Thanks again.

Every single one of these was really interesting and made me want to know more of the story behind each one...

Thanks, at some point I'll cover some of them for sure. Since I now have exposed them for everyone to read.

Awesome thing about that wedding and wait, what, your children had more birthdays than you? Combined or individually? Were you born on the 29th of February? :)

Individually on the birthdays and yes, I was born of Feb. 29th, or as we call ourselves, I am a 29er.
