Restaurant Review 美食推送: Izakaya Masuya

Yesterday was Queen’s Birthday, and it was the only day over the long weekend that didn’t rain. So we went out to see this year’s Vivid Sydney (Post coming soon). We went into the CBD before it was dark enough for the lights, so we went to a restaurant called Izakaya Masuya. Izakaya is like a Japanese bar serving Japanese style Tapas and different kinds of alcohol. As a family though we were only interested in food. We were pretty lucky, as the day’s special was blue fin tuna, one of our favourites. M was pretty fascinated with the giant blue tuna head on display.

昨天是公众假期,好不容易终于天晴,于是我们决定晚上去看今年的悉尼灯光节。我们一早就到了市中心,准备吃完饭才去看灯。我们去了一家叫Izakaya Masuya的日式居酒屋。我们家里一老一小,我又要开车,所以我们没打算喝酒,只打算快点吃完去看灯。不过我们挺幸运的,竟然有新鲜的蓝鳍金枪鱼。这金枪鱼看来体形巨大,鱼头看上去也有一个电脑屏幕那么大!这么大的鱼应该挺罕有的。

We ordered a Tuna special set, an Aburi Salmon sushi, an Eel Ochazuke, and a twice cooked Pork stew.
我们点了一个金枪鱼套餐,一份炙烧三文鱼寿司,一份鳗鱼茶渍饭,还有一个日式猪腩煲。

Aburi means lightly seared in Japanese. Usually a blow touch is used to give the salmon belly a chargrill flavour on the outside, while it’s still tender on the inside. This Aburi is very nicely done. You can see just by looking that the salmon slices was nice and fatty, and the sauce on top is sweet and flavoursome. M liked this dish a lot.

炙烧三文鱼寿司是用喷灯以火焰把三文鱼片的外层烤熟,外焦内嫩。外层的脆鱼皮带着炭烧香味,内里夹生的鱼肉鲜嫩肥美。配上稍甜的香浓酱汁,美味非常!这道寿司是M的最爱。

Ochazuke is essentially rice in tea. The rice was served dry in a bow, topped with eel pieces, and then the waitress poured the tea broth into the bowl in front of us. A very simple dish, but very refreshing and delicate, perfect for a cold winter night.
茶渍饭其实就是茶泡饭。上桌时,一大碗米饭上放了几块烧鳗鱼,然后服务员拿着一个大壶把茶汤倒在饭上,顿时茶香四溢。清香的茶汤伴着颗粒饱满的米饭,味道简单而清新。暖暖的茶渍饭在寒冷的冬天享用最适合不过了。

The Tuna box set looked delicious. Four thick slices of Tuna sashimi, as well as two Nigiri, two rolls and two Maki sushi. It was one of the best tuna we had. Even though it wasn't the infamous Toro Tuna Belly, the texture was still firmer and less chewy than normal tuna sashimi that we had, and the thick cuts definitely made it extremely satisfying. The three different style of sushi were very tasty too.

金枪鱼套餐果然没有让人失望!四片厚厚的金枪鱼刺身和六块不同的金枪鱼寿司看上去相当诱人。这是我们在澳洲吃过最好的金枪鱼。虽然不是鱼腩,但是肉质还是比平常吃的要紧致和爽甜。厚厚的生鱼片口口是肉,让人欲罢不能。三款寿司每款都有自己的特色,味道让人赞不绝口。

Finally, we had the Pork Stew, which consist of large cubes of fatty pork neck, a boiled egg, and Chinese cabbage, all served in a Japanese soy sauce broth. The pork has been twice cooked, so was extremely tender, the pork fat almost melts in your mouth. The Chinese cabbage soaked up all the flavours and so is very flavoursome, and the broth is quite sweet and would probably go very well with plain rice.

最后上的是日式猪腩煲。厚切的猪腩块,分两半的水煮蛋,和清甜的大白菜,一起在酱油汤里烧煮。猪腩上的肥肉经过烹煮后变得入口即化,白菜吸收了汤汁后十分甜美,而甜甜的酱油汤则是伴饭的最佳伴侣。

The food was very delicious at Izakaya Masuya. There was definitely a lot of choices for fresh seafood and Japanese grills, but there are less hot dishes than we have hoped – probably because of the fact that it is an Izakaya and not a family restaurant. They do serve family size Japanese hotpots though, probably something that we would like to try next time.

居酒屋Izakaya Masuya的食物真的不错。海鲜非常新鲜,刺身,寿司或烧烤皆宜。只是Tapas型小吃占多数,主食的选择略少。不过他们也有三四人份的日式火锅看上去不错,下次一定要尝一下。

I thought it was Toro but it's not. It's not as fatty but still amazingly good though.
