Be Watchful!

DISCUSSION:
Jesus used a parable to stress the importance of watchfulness. Notice Jesus' admonition in v.35. What does it imply? See vs. 36 & 40; cf. Matt. 24:44. The faithful servant is privileged to meet the master and be rewarded by him. What rewards await faithful servants? See vs. 37-38; 43-44; cf. Matt. 25:21-24. Ponder over the warning in vs. 39-40.
How often do you think like Peter in v. 41? At times, when God teaches us through some media, we are tempted to think that it is meant either for us only or it is meant for others, not for us. The response of Jesus to Peter clearly shows that ministers (see 1 Peter 2:9) are stewards in Christ's house. They are required to be faithful in instructing all classes of people and giving to each the teaching most appropriate (v. 42). Notice the consequences of being treacherous and unfaithful (vs. 45-46).
Draw out the lesson(s) and warning(s) for us in vs 47-48. See also James 3:1.
And so:
Let us be faithful to our Lord and he will reward us accordingly (see Rev. 22:12).
