Buddies to the end - Our cat Miod and our dog Lolo - Daily Pet Photography
Today's image is a throwback photo that I took in front of our studio, showing our cat Miod, and our dog Lolo.
Miod showed up on our place as a kitten, when Lolo was about six months old, and when he looked from me to Lolo and back again, he ultimately chose to approach Lolo, who promptly chased him into the woods. Luckily I had Lolo on a tether, as he had yet to learn not to chase cars, so he couldn't chase him too far.
I was able to coax him back out, and he allowed me to pet him, and then to pick him up. I went and got some cat food from the house and set up a bowl on the table next to our fire pit, and gave him water as well. he had a small injury on his front leg, which was fresh enough that I thought it possible that he had hurt himself running from Lolo, but it is also possible it happened before then.
As it happened, I had an extra-large dog carrier sitting in the yard, with a smaller carrier on top, so I put a fluffy towel in the carrier on top, figuring that he would be less bothered by Lolo and our other cats than if he were sleeping at ground level, which proved accurate.
And he proved to be a completely awesome cat, got along well with our two other boys, Bear and Edit, and despite their initial meeting, he and Lolo were best buds, as can be seen in the photo.
Miod is the Polish word for honey, pronounced "mewed," as in the past tense of a cat's mewing, and it morphed from his original name, "Mute," as he never meowed. He was almost entirely silent. Unlike any other cat I've ever had.
When we took him to have him neutered, a couple of months later, he finally heard LOTS of cats meowing, and did some meowing himself for the first few days he was home, so it was never that he couldn't meow, just that he didn't. And, from then on, any time he really wanted my attention, he would let out tiny squeaks, but he was still mostly silent by choice.
I've been thinking of him a lot, as the little stray I was trying to befriend reminded me of him, not least of which because I never heard it meow even once. And its color resembled his, so I have wondered if perhaps the mother might herself be mute, if in fact they were even related.
Or it may be simply coincidence, but then, had he not reminded me so much of our wonderful Miod, would have been so upset at its' death? Yes. In fact, I would.
I'll share a lot more about Miod over time, and about Edit, our other awesome white-with-black-spots kitty boy. I miss them, and I know Bear and Lolo do too. Lolo slept on Miod's grave for three days after he died.
Mostly I am grateful to have had them in my our lives, which were richer for their presence, and everything that happened was more than worth it, as it continues being to this day. Life is wonderful.

I took the photo of Miod and Lolo a few years ago outside our studio, probably with my last smart phone, which was an LG V10, though it may have been with my Canon SX30iS.
Which makes the photo of our dog, Lolo, and our late cat, Miod, even more poignant, again showing them to be the buddies they were to the end. I took this photo as they were cooperatively begging at the dinner table, despite our longstanding rule of not feeding them from the table, most likely also with my LG V10.

I have a cat that we call Squeaky, because she doesnt properly meow, she just squeaks. Its pretty cute.

Miod is the only cat I had that all but didn't meow at all, but my cat Bonnie used to chirp at the birds she saw outside, which was cute and hilarious.
I've since had other cats who have a similar chirp, also when watching birds, but I swear Bonnie sounded like she wanted to speak the birds' language. ;-)
Our other cat, Spooky, chirps like that too! Its cute.
I looked it up and apparently they are trying to get the birds attention, and get then interested so they can eat them. Figures... haha!
Yeah, big surprise. ;-)
What did surprise me, though, was that when I was at an art and picture framing convention in the 90s, and Big Cat Rescue was there with one of their captive Florida Panthers, they chirp too, as part of their normal vocalizations, no birds involved.
She was also incredibly sweet. I was already in love with them, and that meeting solidified it for me, even more so when I learned that her name was Cory. ;-)

I bet it would be amazing to work with panthers and other big cats. I mean, regular cats are so much fun, the big ones would have to be even more fun! ♥
Yes, cougars chirp too, which I only learned recently. Of course, Florida panthers are a subspecies, so it wasn't that surprising.

Mostly I am grateful to have had them in my our lives, which were richer for their presence - you get that across, memorably, and beautifully!
I so agree, I've always resonated with the Native American view that everything has a soul, including animals, rocks, rivers, etc. Or, put the way I've come to view it, each is a piece of the collective soul.
And, having been around animals my whole life, I remain convinced that we don't give them nearly enough credit for intelligence, much less for love and empathy. A lot of animals are much more highly evolved than humans in this regard.
As for humans being the "highest" of life forms, well, let's just say I have serious doubts.
