Dear Deep Dives community,

another successful research challenge has come to an end. This instalment sought to explore in greater detail a subject that is on the minds of many at this very moment -
Coups, Regime Change and Interventionism.

Currently, this is a hot button topic that many are emotionally invested in on both sides of the equation. It certainly sparked an intense debate between researchers and critics of the "anti-regime change" position.

Unfortunately, no submissions defending interventionism were submitted for the contest. This is unfortunate for those that feel passionately for intervention and should like to make a well sourced rational case in favour of regime change operations.

That being said, it must be repeated once again that "pro-regime change" contributions were clearly requested in the original @deepdives announcement.

Researchers are encouraged to explore any time period they wish and if they'd like to explore historical events from a classic or unique perspective they're completely welcome to do so.

Likewise, if you'd like to make a case in support of "humanitarian intervention" we'd be interested in hearing from you on the subject.

Here’s the link to the original DD12 post

Some Steemians would have you believe that @deepdives is somehow bias because it does not post, upvote or resteem "pro-regime change" articles.

The @deepdives position is this:

If no research submissions are made on the behalf of your preferred side that does not in any way reflect a bias. What it shows is simply there were no contributions that agree with sentiments held by a particular group. If you are unhappy with the articles, it's up to YOU (the community), not @deepdives, to create the content you would like to see.

For the record, the @deepdives account has never made an entry into the research challenge, the account was created to host and reward community driven research.

Be sure to read the contest details before making baseless claims.

A final point to understand about @deepdives is that one of the aims of the research challenge is to

Find an overlooked, underrated, underreported or obscure leak/ email/ cable/document/ court filing...

Deep Dives is not looking for material that parrots MSM outlets (CNN, NYTimes, Fox News, etc.), instead our research community is dedicated to going beyond institutional propaganda.

Moving on. For this challenge researchers were asked to include reference to documents found in several substantial databases available online to the general public.

Regime Change in South America - The US Role in Chile's 9-11Coup

This edition of #deepdives was another extended research challenge providing participants with more than three weeks to make their entries. Contributors were also able to submit more than one submission during that time period.

We'd like to take a moment to thank both @valued-customer and @echacal6 for making their very first submissions to Deep Dives. Welcome aboard!

Once more, we'd like to give a big thank you to all the participants in the Deep Dives research challenge. We value your original submissions, the light you shed on under-reported stories and your dedication to digging into areas that some find controversial or taboo. Much respect.

Psychological Warfare Conducted By The USG Against Americans To Support The Coups in Venezuela

by @valued-customer

An impressive debut contribution by @valued-customer describes a sustained campaign of the USG to realize regime change in Venezuela since the earliest days of the Hugo Chavez government. A key actor in the present campaign to overthrow the Venezuelan government is the appearance of self-declared interim president Juan Guaido who has leapt on to the scene with the backing and blessing of Washington. The article recounts Guaido's training overseas in Serbia with the CANVAS program previously known as Otpor. This secretive organization has ties to the CIA, Stratfor and the NED (National Endowment for Democracy) . The CIA, NED and CANVAS have all previously been linked to coups and regime change operations in other countries. Guaido's training with CANVAS is a critical aspect in understanding the full scope of the escalating tensions and unfolding events in Venezuela. Although reported by a few independent media outlets, such as The Grayzone, it's unreported/underreported in the media and largely remains unknown by the greater public.
The psychological operations against the minds of US citizens are out in full force at the moment. After Obama legalized propaganda against Americans, the msm has been bombarding the unsuspecting public with falsifications aimed at manufacturing consent for war and interventionism in multiple 'theatres of war'.

A great piece by @valued-customer and we hope he continues to be a customer in future challenges. Great contribution and analysis, well done!

by @richq11

Now, there's a new colonialism, neocolonialism where the only thing that's really changed is that the monarchies are no more, replaced by multinational corporations and banks such as the IMF, World Bank and Bank of International Settlements, all striving to keep the African nations in a state of indentured servitude... the tool, a state of virtually constant regime change. Regime change keeps the citizens poor and compliant, in a state of perpetual turmoil. What the multinationals fear more than anything is that these nations will organize and take control of their own economies...

Another top notch article by the prolific steemian @richq11. This Deep Dive plunges into the mechanisms that have shackled a continent for hundreds of years. Neocolonialism accomplishes the same goals of resource control, wealth extraction and subjugation defined by the colonial era but with a different facade. Today, multi-national corporations benefit from destabilized regions marred by internal conflict.

If you were a multinational corporation looking for a country to exploit using regime change would you choose a nation with ethnic solidarity and risk pushback, or one with a variety of different ethnicities that can be exploited by turning one against the other? In this vein it seems that, according to Posner, democratization caused ethnic divisions, or at least allowed outside interference to do so.

This piece also traces the tragic end to the democratically elected leader of the Congo, Patrice Lumumba, by Mobutu with backing from the CIA. Another example, of long list of regime changes backed by US intelligent agencies that remove democratically elected governments and subsequently replace them with a dictatorship with Washington's blessing. Powerful piece @richq11! One that covers a lot of ground and we definitely encourage more people to read it in it's entirety. Well done!

Third Place (8 SBD)

petrocaribe12 LRG.jpg

https://steempeak.com/deepdives/@natepower/petro-caribe-the-economic-hitmen-another-nail-in-venezuela-s-coffin

by @natepower

This entry by @natepower looks at the ongoing campaign of regime change in Venezuela that's been underway for almost two decades. Something we don't here much about from the business end of the legacy media bullhorn are the positive actions the Venezuelan government have been involved with impoverished nations of the Caribbean. Petro Caribe was a regional agreement based on political solidarity and economic support of the participating nations.

The features of the agreement include an institutional platform, ALBA Caribe Fund for social and economic development, operating aspects, financing mechanisms and compensations, and energy efficiency.

Wikileaks cables demonstrate that the USG and Big Oil companies were clearly upset with countries benefiting from the agreement, and with Haiti and Honduras in particular. Two nations that have experienced long term economic hardship.

"Post sees a distinct possibility that Zelaya may be seeking to supplant the fiscal disciplines of an IMF program with the relatively easy money that the financing conditions of PetroCaribe would provide. "

Neocolonialism anyone?

A great dig producing a string of emails that reveal that the USG policy in the region is to keep impoverished nations in a debt cycle with the IMF while simultaneously steering them away from working together and from agreements that clearly benefit their own people.

Keep up the solid research @natepower, great finds!

Congratulations to the winners! The DD team is growing in submissions ;)

Yeah, that's pretty cool to see!
Did you see @rt-international joined Steem? - what an unexpected surprise.
Sure, some people will have a bee in their bonnet about that, lol.

Yup, popular news site. Maybe WikiLeaks can join and give some publicity too ;) If they ever get taken down from Twitter, at least they would have their history preserved here. With Moreno making false accusations against Assange to try to get him expelled from the embassy merely for WikiLeaks talking about him and alleged corruption on Twitter, the left-wing site may eventually get rid of WikiLeaks for whatever reason, like they have suspended many others.

Ways you can help the @informationwar!

Wow, thanks guys... what a surprise!

Thank you for joining in! You have a wealth of knowledge and experience that comes through in your work! Thank you for sharing it with us ;)

Thank you so much... that's a great compliment! If I could only figure out how to use Wikileaks...

I lost my internet for about a week, and just only got back on tonight to discover that not only was my submission granted the stellar company of your participants, but found exemplary. I am actually stunned and grateful - very grateful - for the consideration and vote of confidence that grants.

I will be trying to catch up on the other submissions (that I didn't manage to read before I dropped offline) as I have long been blessed by the quality of the posts and solid research every participant in Deep Dives has provided. Now that the Julian Assange saga has moved beyond the embassy asylum to the sad and yet more corrupt venue of the courts (and the inevitable character assassinations the enemedia will post) I find the Deep Dives community and project more valuable than ever.

Julian Assange isn't on trial. Free speech is. You and I are. This isn't something happening to someone else far away. JA is just the sacrificial lamb standing in for all of us - and we're under the exact threat of censorship and show trial he is pioneering on our behalf. Deep Dives and we independent journalists are more critically important than ever as the censors of Big Tech and government propagandists seek to control what we are allowed to know, consider, and prepare to surmount.

Stay strong my good friends. We need you all; your voices, knowledge, and ability to research meaningful evidence that we can use to keep our freedom, more than ever. I am confident that the day of freedom from oppression grows ever closer, as advancing technology continues to provide means of avoiding the parasitic predation that enables centralized hoards of wealth and power to impose the will of tyrants on we free people, but know that things will become more difficult before that happy day comes. We need each the other, and the intelligence and information we can share that will enable us to foresee the coming blows so we can dodge when possible, block when necessary, and strike back with the weapon of personal empowerment and prosperity when our enemy's guard is down.

Thanks very much!
