Man nennt es auf dem Balkan auch die Krankheit der ungewaschenen Hände.
Da es dort noch viele Marktstände mit frischem Obst und Gemüse gibt, wird an dieser Balkanweisheit wohl etwas dran sein. Um welche Karankheit es sich hierbei genau handeln könnte, wird an dieser Stelle nicht näher erläutert. Fakt ist jedenfalls, dass ungewaschenes Obst und Gemüse Keime und div. Erreger übertragen kann. Und da dieses Nahrungsmittel ja von der Ernte bis zum Konsumenten auch meist mit Menschen/ Händen in Berührung kommt, sollte man der eigenen Gesundheit zu Liebe das Grünzeug lieber ein Mal zu viel, als zu wenig einer gründlichen Reinigung unterziehen.

In any case, it is a fact, that unwashed fruit and vegetables can transmit germs and various pathogens. From the harvest to the consumer, usually these foods come into contact with people/ hands and so it is better to clean the green stuff once too much, rather than too little, for the sake of one's own health.

Also sollte das Obst und Gemüse vor dem Verzehr ordentlich geputzt und geschrubbt werden.
Wenn man dem “Spülwasser” auf einen Liter ca. 1-2 Essloffel Natron dazu gibt, wird das Reinigen noch effektiver und Keime werden so auch eher entfernt.

So the fruit and vegetables should be cleaned properly and scrubbed before consumption.
If you add 1-2 tablespoons of baking soda to the "rinse water" per liter, cleaning becomes even more effective and germs are more likely to be removed.
