Mutter Gottes im Wasser
Die "Mutter Gottes im Wasser" ist zwischen Brakel und Nieheim (an der B252, in der Nähe der Abfahrt Bellersen/Marienmünster) gelegen, im Schatten einer kreisrunden Pflanzung von Ulmen und Eichen. Hier durchfließt der Heberbach die Stelle und wird zu einem kleinen Teich gestaut in dessen Mitte auf einer Insel die Heiligenfigur steht.
Geschichte zur Errichtung des Standbildes
Als einer der Söhne der verstorbenen Gräfin Franziska im Jahr 1861 auf der Reise nach Paris war, erhielt er am Rhein die unerwartete und erschütternde Nachricht, dass seine Mutter in der Heimat schwer erkrankt sei. Von Besorgnis und Schmerz ergriffen, gelobte er der "Trösterin der Betrübten" eine Bildsäule errichten zu lassen, wenn die Mutter wieder gesund werde. Das Gebet des Sohnes fand Erhörung: Die Kranke erholte sich und lebte noch weitere 18 Jahre. Hoch erfreut ließ der junge Graf, nachdem er in die Heimat zurückgekehrt war, die prächtige "Consolatrix afflictorum" mit der deutschen Inschrift: "Tröste die Herzen, lind´re die Schmerzen, hilf uns, hilf uns, Maria!" an diesem besonderen Ort aufstellen.
The "Mother of God in the water" is located between Brakel and Nieheim (on the B252, near the exit Bellersen / Marienmünster), in the shadow of a circular planting of elms and oaks. Here the Heberbach flows through the place and is dammed to a small pond in the middle of which stands the figure of an angel on an island.
Story about the creation of the statue
When one of the sons of the late Countess Franziska was on his way to Paris in 1861, he received an unexpected and shocking message on the Rhine that his mother was seriously ill at home. Caught with concern and pain, he vowed to have the "Comforter of the Afflicted" erect a statue when the mother regained her health. The prayer of the son was heard: The patient recovered and lived another 18 years. Highly pleased, the young Count, having returned home, had the magnificent "Consolatrix Afflictorum" with the German inscription: "Comfort your hearts, lessen the pain, help us, help us, Mary!" set up in this special place.
