Galle is usually a tourist town. Or better say the fort lying there. What the tourists know least is the city centre, outside the fort.
Here the whole real life takes place. It's loud, sometimes dirty, but it shows the real life.

Galle ist normalerweise eine Touristen Stadt. Oder sagen besser das dort liegende Fort. Was die Touristen am wenigsten kennen, ist der Stadtkern, ausserhalb vom Fort.
Hier spielt sich das ganze reale Leben ab. Es ist laut, manchmal dreckig, aber zeigt das echte Leben.

We stayed in Galle as well. The fort area must be the most touristy place I saw in Sri Lanka. Although I did enjoy stay there, I found it a little too polished for SL. We did venture out of the fort area and saw the bustling city. I can see how it can put people off, but on the other hand, if you're there why stick to the fort area only. Thanks for sharing!
