Hiring Software developers as fresher is costly now

Recruitment process for hiring software engineers has been changing every year. Based on the demand in the market recruitment strategies have been changing. Recently in one of my articles I mentioned about the recruitment that I have been doing for onboarding new members to the team. The process is still happening and we are unable to onboard right candidates for the team. There are multiple reasons for it. We are looking forward to onboard only the sharp candidates who can start working on the project right away.

In order to make this recruitment process complete soon, my recruitment board suggested to go for campus interviews and recruitment drives to get some good highly skilled fresher candidates. But there is a small problem with recruitment drives. If we go to big colleges it reputed colleges, we have to give them high package directly while onboarding them. When they come to the team there can be parity issues where a fresher will have more package than a 3 or 4 years employee in the team. But something that we have to consider is that even though they are fresher's they might have great skill set to match an experienced associate in the team.

Today the software development requirement is in such a way that the expectation is more on the skill set rather than experience. The experienced team members are hesitant to learn new technologies and code using new technologies but a fresher or a new employee who is willing to learn new technologies and code using them will obviously have greater advantage than an experienced employee. This is how the software industry is going nowadays.

Though the fresher candidates are costly nowadays, it is still worth to onboard them because they have the skill set that can out perform an existing employee. They end up demanding a salary that can match their expectation. If the company is not willing to pay the demand from those freshers, then the loss is only for the company because they have other opportunities where they can showcase their talents and get a job.
