Hurricane Florence: French Drain Completed Just In Time!

Hey guys! The hurricane has come and gone from my area and she dumped a lot of rain on us. The last I heard was 17 people have died with one being an infant that was swepped away from a flooded car :(

In my first post, I talked about starting the french drain and all of the marvelous luck I had. You can find it here if you didn't see it.https://steemit.com/prepping/@bluelightbandit/hurricane-florence-preparation-french-drain-part-1-2ae36a4c6eeda

I was planning on doing all of the work myself unfortunately, so I went to my local hardware store for all of the supplies.

May not look like much but that's about 400 bucks in the back of my truck.

After getting the trench dug late on day one, I only had one more day to get this thing completed before Florence showed her ass.

I had to go through the ditch and cut out more roots than what's in a 70's porn movie. Ain't kidding y'all, it was roots galore!

My reciprocating saw made light work out of it.

After the trench was mostly cleared, I installed the commercial grade landscping cloth inside. This commercial grade roll measured 6'x300'.

image

After the cloth was installed, I put down a 3" base of clean stone gravel to help with filtering and draining. I ordered 5 tons and used every bit of it.

The tractor helped bunches with this part. I still had to use a shovel a lot but the tractor saved me several steps.

Once the base was down, I installed the sleeved corrugated pipe.

Sure would have been nice to have an extra hand doing all of this. Even just unrolling the 100' sections of pipe was difficult because it wanted to kink up on me. Bandit -1...Corrugated Pipe -0

Once the pipe was laid (that's the part I've always been good at btw 😎) and connections fitted, I folded the sides of the cloth over the pipe for extra protection. I then began pouring more gravel in the trench, on top of the pipe. Now all I had to do was cover the rest up with dirt.

Thank the stars above my project done what it was supposed to do, no water entered the house and we got a lot of it!

During this entire operation I only had two hiccups, one major and one minor. The major one was cutting my water supply in half. The minor one was backing in to my fire pit with the tractor. My dog was going nuts while I was operating the tractor for some reason and I was paying more attention to him than the fire pit. Fire pit-1...Bandit-0

Mission Accomplished! Now all that has to be done is cosmetic things, which isn't a time sensitive project so Imma gonna take a few days off to recharge a lil bit.

Thanks for checking out my post, I hope you guys have a great day!

Haha! What’s your forking beef with the 70s? (JK)
Nice job. It looks really substantial. Overkill is definitely underrated when it comes to draining water away from around your house’s foundation. ;)

Too much bush in the 70's! They definitely utilized the wild and natural look back then...😳😰

A job well done, @bluelightbandit! No water in your house! 👍👍

YES! I was soooo relieved! Thank you, Ceci!

I am happy that all is well with you, your wife and your home.

Thank you kindly! 😊
