Why replace when you can restore!

in #diy6 years ago

This is just a quick post showing what I’ve been up to today

This wall sign has been looking shabby for the last 5 years or so and i finally decided enough is enough and broke out the tools to give it a new lease of life, much better than the wifes suggestion of throwing it in the bin and buying a new one!

a rather shabby looking door number

Wire brush attachment is a great bit of fun

This made light work of removing all the grit and grime and oxidisation that had accumulated over the years, i did think about polishing it up to a fine shine, but i like how it looks, it’s a little rough around the edges, not perfect but loved.
On to the staining

A couple of coats of outdoor wood stain is was starting to look good, seriously the photo’s don’t do it justice.
On to the varnish!

To try and keep this looking good i gave it a couple of coats of varnish including on the brass numbers, once it was dry it went back on the wall and looks loads better for the 30 minutes spent, much better in my opinion than replacing it.

well that’s a another thing off the list, and another thing that makes me smile everytime i see it. As always thank you for stopping by feel free to leave a comment and upvote and resteem if you like what you have seen

All the best

Dan

The look is much better after maintenance !

Thanks! i thought that too.

Ah that's heaps better!!!! Love it. Why on earth would anyone buy a new one - silly buggers.

Well done! It looks great :)
At our place we had a shortage of outdoor chairs when guests came over but we had some old plastic milk crates in the garage collecting dust so I've now turned those into seats with a bit of a sand, a lick of paint and a chair cushion. We plan to move soon so recycling was better than going out and buying more furniture we can't take with us.
