Shifting definition of the term "Parallel Society"

The term 'parallel society' was first coined in 1996 by a  German sociologist, Wilhelm Heitmeyer.

Wikipedia defines it as a self-organized ethnic or religious minority, usually a immigrant group, that has a reduced or minimal spatial, social and cultural contact with the majority society into which they immigrate.

The use of the words "minority", "majority"  and "immigrate" in the definition is rather inappropriate because the term is beginning to be defined as any substantial society that has reduced or minimal spatial, social and cultural contract with another substantial society in the world. It is in this sense that the term is used in the linked article.

Whilst it is true that at this point in history cryptocurrencies do allow people to create a parallel society, that parallel society may no longer remain a parallel society if governments eventually adopt cryptocurrencies and the use of cryptocurrencies becomes a norm in the society.
