Mookie Betts is one of the best players in baseball. He is also a free agent after next season. Could this mean the Red Sox are going to listen to offers on Betts this Winter.

According to a report, albeit second hand, that is the belief among the industry. With Betts set to hit the market, the Red Sox have to consider whether they can afford him.

Trading him would make them a worse team in 2020. There is no way to replace a superstar like him. However, if the belief is they cannot sign him, getting something in return could be of great value in the long term. A player like Betts still commands a fair amount on the trade market.
