@dlike - How to use this great resource and not be a farming, spamming tosser. SPAMMERS PLEASE READ. YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE

in #dlike5 years ago (edited)

@dlike has, since it's launch last year, come in for some serious derision and has been blighted by spammers and lazy arseholes who just want an upvote and reward for doing absolutely ZERO.

Sadly, I think @dlike hasn't taken this too seriously as it simply enjoyed the increasing user base but seemingly has now begun to do so and is attempting to address these problems.

In an attempt to help what I still think can be a great asset to this blockchain, I have tried to write a post including the new @dlike guidelines to try and improve the quality of the site and hence bring in better quality 'shares' and associated commentary from more members of the wider community.

My love of @dlike comes from the fact it has such potential for people to share articles about what matters to them along with an added paragraph or two of why it matters, or their opinion on the article they just shared. They can post articles about their shared interests, create mini communities of people who share these interests. Personal and globally shared connections are truly what makes a positive difference to the world and of course, not everyone is or can be a great content writer so it makes Steemit a more inclusive community, giving more people a voice.

@dlike could be like a cross between Pinterest and Reddit but until the spammers are stopped in their tracks and the posting guidelines adhered to and moderated, this will never happen and that will be such a shame.

@dlike themselves are as much to blame. Firstly for allowing this to happen from the start and secondly for not having a roadmap for their platform. Let me rephrase that, they do have a roadmap but there have been so many changes to the format, design and the direction in which the platform has been taken, it's all over the place. There were going to be interest boards, ways to sort through the tags. Many things which have neither materialised or have seemingly gone by the wayside. Whilst understanding there is a lot of work and expense involved in a project like this, the management team must shoulder a lot of the blame for this seemingly never-ending shambles, especially as they have a prestigious support team and generous delegators.

I seriously hope they use @themarkymark and the other blacklists available to them to seriously clean up the site.

Another thing I would like to see urgently added is a search box in a similar vein to @steemhunt, then people would need to take responsibility for posting the same article and by failing to do this, lose some of their 'score' or even 'dlike' tokens. There needs to be a form of penalty for not using the platform with it's usage remit.

My attempt to show you how to create a good @dlike share.

Firstly, let's take a long, hard look at the @dlike guidlines

Now read it again please........

So one of my interests is aviation and I read this article this morning which I found quite interesting:-
https://www.bbc.com/news/science-environment-48521386

Now when you share, you will see a few lines of text already in the comment box. This is the placeholder text linked to the article and many of you simply leave it there and press 'share'. DON'T. This is basically plagiarism, so start writing your own commentary on the article, as you can see in the guidelines, it's a 40-word minimum which isn't a lot so don't be lazy.

Here's mine for this article;

If this comes off it will be great news for the UK and Cornwall as we are hardly known to be at the forefront of space technology, despite the fact that so many satellites currently in orbit are designed and built in the UK. It is especially interesting for me because when I was a kid, I spent many happy hours during my holidays in Newquay, watching planes take off from what was then RAF St. Mawgan and will be great to see the distinctive, huge, Virgin jumbos leaving with a rocket strapped under its wings.

That's all it takes. I'm not a writer either, but that few lines took me all of a couple of minutes to write. Add your tags, press 'share'

Simple!

A big shout-out to @ehiboss and the whole team at @dlike. @ehiboss for those of you who don't know is leading light within the Steem Nigerian communities and organiser of @sin4 which is coming up soon so please lend your support.

And a final plea to everyone else out there who doesn't yet use @dlike . These devs spend a lot of time and effort to create this shit for very little reward in many cases so we can build up a strong and healthy blockchain full of fun stuff to use. They DESERVE our support and they do not deserve to have their hard work shit on by a load of spammers and people who care about nothing other than getting something for nothing so again, it is the responsibility of EVERYONE here to help stamp this behaviour out and not simply ignore the Spam, abuse and general fucktardery.

Doing nothing is condoning their behaviour and makes you just as bad.

Never given it much thought for no particular reason. Nice concise-casual posting with a purpose that shares an already well written professional article seems to make sense and would be an improvement on many people's format.

I grew up with single engine Cessna 172s being rented by my old man for weekend exploring. Got many fond memories of those days. In another alternate reality I could see myself having had taken up the hobby and smuggling various contraband domestically. Reminds me of a great story I can probably turn into my first dlike post. Noted!
