A year in space caused short-term changes to astronaut Scott Kelly's body. His carotid artery thickened, his DNA was damaged, there were shifts in his gut microbes, and he had reduced cognitive abilities. But almost everything returned to normal, stable or baseline levels six months after he returned to Earth.
