DLive video - Epic Zipline in Dominican Republic

in #dlive6 years ago (edited)

Hola from the Dominican Republic! This is the video of my first full day in the country.

To start off, I woke up in a treehouse! Yeah. We stayed at a place called the Dominican Treehouse Village near the town of Samana. I give you a little room tour plus you'll see footage from the lobby as well.

To start off our adventures for the day, me and Joram, my friend from the Netherlands, went on a bike ride provided by the hotel. It was a 15 minute ride to the beach. And the beach was beautiful. Soft sand, palm trees, surrounding mountains, and there was barely anyone there. I walked past a rock outcropping where no one else was and I just enjoyed the nature.

After a filling meal of fish, rice, and beans we biked back to the hotel to meet up with Louis and Paul who slept in that morning. We had something major lined up for noon. On the hotel's property is the tallest zipline in the Caribbean, according to their website. 12 lines of zipping fun. Now, I've been on ziplines that have bored me just because they weren't that exhilarating. This zipline did not disappoint. It's the best one I've ever been on!

We had to hike up a very steep hill to get to the summit which is the starting point for the zipline tour. The first line is the longest and the highest above the ground. I'd guess it was about 300 feet above the ground. Whoo! What a way to start. We went one by one down each line. Paul had never done anything like this in his life and he was super nervous to do it at the beginning. But by the end of it, he was trying a whole bunch of tricks like hanging upside down. In a very short time he became really comfortable with something he initially feared. Most of you know I love to get people out of their comfort zones and try new things that they may be afraid of. Maybe even help them conquer their fear, like in this case.

After we were through ziplining we still had some light in the day left but it had started raining. Once it subsided we drove to the same beach Joram and I had been to that morning. We just walked to the end of it, got our feet wet and had a good time.

Stay tuned for my next video where we go to an abandoned bridge that goes over the ocean to an abandoned island. It will be awesome so be sure you're following me.
