Trump's issue ofc is that the news is wrong ("fake", whatever)..
You can disagree that it's wrong and fake.. but from his perspective, from there it makes sense that maybe you don't invite those people to your home/office to have first hand exposure and an advantage over all other journalists
[note that stripping credentials is not "shutting them down", it's removing their special privilege that gives them an artificially easy path
if anything it seems egalitarian, the more credentials you can remove the better lol
they can go ahead and do real work like you and others have to do .. freedom of speech doesn't mean you get to have special passes]
seems like just a natural extension of the general "fake news" thing, like it would be weird if he didn't think about removing credentials, given everything else that we know he thinks/feels
So to me this seems like just exactly what you should expect Trump to say/believe given everything else he says, it seems perfectly consistent, not the twisted web of contradiction that you seem to be portraying
whether or not it's true that these news outlets are lying etc is all it comes down to .. it's just upping the ante on the disagreement that was already there
