The Roman bridge Cordoba is a bridge in Cordoba, Andalucia, in the south of Spain, built at the beginning of the 1st century BC across the river Guadalquivir.

It enters a small preserved area known as Sotos de la Albolafia.
History

The bridge was built by the Romans at the beginning of the first century BC, possibly replacing the previous one in the forest. Currently, after Islamic reconstruction, it has 16 arcades, one less than the original and the total length of 247 meters. The width is about 9 meters.

Via Augusta, which connected Rome to Cadiz, most likely passed through it. At the beginning of Islamic rule, the Muslim governor of Al-Samh ibn Malik al-Khawlani ordered a bridge that would be built on the ruins that remained of the old Roman construction. In the Middle Ages, the Calahorra Tower and the Puerta del Puente were built in the south and north sides of the bridge, respectively (the latter is currently a 16th century reconstruction). The bridge was reconstructed and expanded to the current size. Arches portray the famous Moorish architecture, which dominates the city's landscape. In the 17th century, a sculpture depicting St. Raphael was introduced in the middle of the bridge, executed by Bernabé Gómez del Río.

During its history, several times the bridge was restored and restored (in particular, in the 10th century), and now only the 14th and 15th arch (counting from the Puerta del Puente Square) are original. It was widely restored in 2006.
