Be careful: the ticks have already woken up!
I can not belive it! Previously, we started talking about the threat of ticks only at the beginning of May, but this is the beginning of March. And yet the fact remains. Today I discovered a thick impudent tick on one of our dogs.
This year we decided to give up special sprays and try special pills. Sprays have not proven their effectiveness. On the other hand, I admit that in our country, unfortunately, a lot of fakes. Of course, this can happen with pills, but so far all of our friends give good reviews about them.
A tick bite itself is not dangerous for a dog. But, if the tick is a carrier of piroplasmosis, the situation can become critical. The longer the tick is in the dog's body, the higher the risk of infection and the higher the degree of intoxication.
What should pay attention.
If you find a tick that has already bitten your dog, try to remove it as soon as possible. If it is possible to test in your country, do not throw away the tick. Then watch the dog closely for a week. Lack of appetite, drowsiness, dark urine may indicate the presence of the disease. In this case, you must immediately contact the veterinary clinic. Piroplozmoz is deadly for your pet and the sooner the necessary measures are taken, the greater the chances of treatment success.
I have bought myself the little tools the vets use to get the ticks out. They are a pain :(
Yes, I think I use the same. But there is no other way:(
At least they have you looking after them :)
Good advice for dog owners. Ticks are very bad here on Long Island NY.
They are bad everywhere:( It seems to me that 20 years ago there were less of them and they were not so dangerous.
I'm an old guy and can verify that statement. My first cats could go outside then.
That is shocking for me too. I found the tick on my Gabi's ear. Tomorrow I am going to the vet and check her. Just in case. Greetings
