Do you think Steemit needs a account verification or KYC feature?

  • Yes. Exactly it would be better for platform.

  • No. Nothing will block the abusing.

Steem is about community. For a community to thrive, you need people to assume personal responsibility. Anonymous accounts cannot be hold to account for potentially malicious or harmful behaviour

Steem might be about community, but Steem is also about censorship resistance. It’s about being able to post anonymously without any centralized entity controlling what you can or can’t say. KYC is not needed here, and quite frankly not possible (only perhaps for the individual application interfaces themselves) in which case would instantly see a mass exodus if ever implemented. I certainly would use a different service (and I am far from anonymous). This is about personal and financial freedom and KYC doesn’t go with the flow of that.

"One's freedom stops where starts the freedom of others".
If one wants to be art of a community, it should (formally or implicitly) accept the rules of the community - refrain from doing what the community considers "off limits".

That would be "self censorship" if you wish, accepted for the sake of the others.

It's not about "KYC" because there's no "seller - customer" relationship here. It's more "KYF" - know your fellow. And it shouldn't be imposed, it should be an entry rule in the community: if you want to belong to the steem community, you need to assume responsibility for your behavior. You need to have something at stake - here, by revealing your real world identity, your put your real world reputation at risk

Some people do not want to put their real world identity (or life?!) at risk when they speak their mind online, and thankfully STEEM allows people to speak their mind without fear of repercussions, whether it be by governments or others that disagree with them. That’s the beauty of it all.

Which abuse do you mean?

And if somebody doesn't identify himself will be kicked off the blockchain? And what if the email address is fake? And what if the person uses VPN or Tor?

It shouldn't be imposed but rather incentivised, IMO. A bit like LinkedIn, but much better - despite the huge number of fake profiles, the proportion of completely fake profiles on LinkedIn is still much lower than on FB. Because LinkedIn is a place where you could potentially meet your next employer ...

I think Steem needs the anonymous option, think about the situation of people blogging in dictatorships. Uncensored site, but who writes about something really important, faces the wrath of the authorities? It can't be serious.

I also chose the anonymous solution with a reason.

Linkedin has other purposes.

I have to agree, since I do not own a mobile phone, neither a bank account, or even a citizen id card with a valid date, I don't do anything that might be considered illegal but, I'm not a citizen, I don't serve the city neither the people in power.. The few money I earn is from honest work, by doing small jobs (whenever available), and am trying to make some in steemit, I refuse to pay taxes and don't want anything from the state, government or anyone related..
I would prefer to live in the streets and not have food than contribute to this dictatorship masked as democracy..
And just this is hard as it is, the last thing I want is to be censored or pushed out for not conforming to a state granted document, license, etc..

Anyway, these are my "2 cents" about this, not that it would matter, still, I wanted to thank You and all other users for caring enough to participate on this..

Cheers
