Who are speaking the worst English in the world?

Listening

Yesterday I asked you in a poll who are speaking English most clearly. The general opinion seems to be: We can’t really generalize, in every region can be some people speaking nice. Today, let’s reverse the question. Who are speaking the worst, less understandable English of the world in your opinion? Who are the people you don’t understand?

  • The English

  • The Scots

  • The Irish

  • The Yankees (USA)

  • The Canadians

  • The Australians

  • The New Zealanders

  • African people

  • European people (UK, Ireland excluded)

  • Asian people

  • Latin-American people

  • Persons from Anglo-Saxon countries in general

No offense but I always have a difficult time understanding English spoken by Asians. It will take some seconds in which the words are residing in my brain before I would understand.

But yeah, I would love to stay with the fact that we should not generalize because three factors come in to play when speaking a language is concerned.

Good to have the internet, we can practice on Youtube, D.tube or with online radio stations... (BBC World Service, for example)

I am not sure that can work. I think only our environment can influence the way we speak. We can practice writing through videos and become good but no speaking. The pronounciation of words will always be a problem.

maybe the last one

and there are apps to speak, better, to videochat with people from all over the world. "Speaky" for example

Any non-native person (and sometimes even native persons) can speak English (very) badly. This includes beginners, learners in general, and sometimes even people with (years of) English experience, and other (really any kind of) people from all around the world, so we can’t generalize.

They can, but mustn't.
I think there are differences. About 80 percent of Swedish people are speakign English, and mostly good. How many percent of people in, for example, France, Spain, Ukraine or Brazil do you think are speaking a good English?

Though I am also from Asia!

but at the same time, they are the best!

It depends on what you call English... I once read the comment of someone in the UK: if you steal our language at least speak and write it well!

Also a Frechman will pronounce and speak completely different English as a Dutchman. How come we are all seen as Europeans one nation?
The languages spoken.do not even have much in.common.

I think schools have to be improved. At least we can understand us by writing...

So do the teachers. Many of them are not able to count or write without making mistakes. In Holland they again want to change grammar and spelling because it takes the teachers too much time to teach it to children.
