What Topics Interest You The Most?

We often talk about quality as a prerequisite when it comes to posts on STEEM. But quality, outside of certain parameters such as grammar and coherency are fairly subjective. A lot of times it boils down to the types of subject matter that we are interested in and like to read about.

Since the economic improvement proposal (EIP) is most likely being added to the next hardfork, it would seem important for any creators/authors who want to continue to know what curators are interested in.

Many who curate don't do it manually, but they do autovote, and some of that is either through a curation trail, where there can be specific topics allowed for curation, or they can autovote on their own, based on the types of posts creators have put out previously.

There are also those who mainly curate posts from people they like, or who are new to STEEM and need some additional attention. It would seem that would be good for creators to know, as well, where the upvotes are as likely to go.

Without hundreds participating in this dpoll, it's not likely to provide enough information to determine what all of us who curate might enjoy, but as many who wish to participate—your answers are greatly appreciated.

So, what kind of posts interest you the most enough to either upvote/comment, or both? And do you mostly manually curate, or do you mostly autovote/follow a curation trail?

Dear @glenalbrethsen

Another interesting piece.

it would seem important for any creators/authors who want to continue to know what curators are interested in.

I've been in social media long enough to realize, that most people still seem to think that "content is the king" and that if you post something interesting, then people will come.

Reality seem to be very different. Majority of people (including me) care mostly about curating content created by people we support. By people we consider valuable and we want to help them grow.

Content itself (partly because of such an enormous amount of daily content) doesn't matter that much any more. Obviously quality still matters, but again: we will end up supporting those who we value. End of story.

I realized that most content creators do not understand that part and so many of them expect, that since they created interesting publication then somehow quality traffic and financial rewards should follow.

And that is simply not the case.

ps.
Another thing that is worth to consider is the fact, that most popular and engaging posts are those that encourage people to think, discuss and share their opinion. Regardless of the topic.

Yours,
Piotr

Hey, @russia-btc.

Thanks for the answers. I was expecting to see more folks wanting general crypto and investing news, but I still haven't made it through all the answers yet, so maybe there's more out there. You picked quite a few things that others haven't yet, so I'm sure that makes those who post on those topics happy to see you out there. :)

Hey, @bidesign.

Thanks for participating in the poll. Very helpful answers. I hope others will take the time to answer because I think it will be pretty revealing if many more do.

Yeah, Why not! You too usually help with my researches.

Don't you especially put "science"?

Not sure what you meant, so I'll answer two ways. In the poll, I didn't single out Science, but it is part of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics). Personally, I don't see a lot of science posts, but in general, I'll read ones that interest me, mostly dealing with space, time, and how they relate to us. :)

Hey, @abbak7.

Thanks for the answers. Crypto and specific STEEM news are two things I'm expecting to see quite a bit by those answering the poll. So far, it looks like people are mainly manually curating too. Interesting!

Hey, @jeffjagoe.

Thanks for the participation. I'd say you've got a decent amount of reading interests there. It will be interesting to me to see how many end up choosing the STEEM specific posts, especially since they seem to be written on their own, anyway. :)

I look at tags, I have a few current favorites, and some of them I was not sure fit in any of the choices, like #wednesdaywalk, it kind of fits in both photography and general life,

Hey, @bashadow.

Well, I guess the wednesdaywalk could be whichever or both, I guess. :) I tried to hit the bigger ones definitely, and maybe some of the less traveled choices. I wondered if there would be people who still use the tags. I've been in them from time to time, but not nearly as much as I used to.

As is, though, you've got quite a variety of things you like to read, so that should keep you busy. :) I find I can write about a lot of things, but that my personal reading interests tend to narrow. Not sure why that is. An example would be, fiction. I love to write it, but I tend not to read a lot of what others do. I should be more supportive, but my taste in fiction is specific, too.

I do have a tendency to wander over a lot of things, I guess it's a new modern version of the nomad. Wander around and see what one can see.

Hey, @erikahfit.

Thanks for answering the poll.

I'm seeing quite a few folks answering with photography and art. I'm also surprised but happy to see how many are still curating manually. Hardly a large enough sample yet, but encouraging. The problem is, those who autovote don't read everything they end up voting on, so maybe we won't see any of those?

I see things a bit differently. Some of those who are using autovoter to vote on their friends posts may not read those posts but others will for sure.

Autovoter is also used so you can get better curation as it's very important when you vote. Time is of the essence here and one cannot stay on the blockchain all day to vote.

Many are using autovoter and then comment when they have time.

I wonder just how many are taking advantage of the timing. Those following curation trails aren't really doing that, so it would have to be individuals. And I know from my own that there are only a few who are coming in between 13-17 minutes after the post, instead of everyone piling in at once. Regardless, I get that it should be important.

My experience has also been that those who autovote my posts rarely comment, too. No doubt it's happening, but I'm going to say experience will vary drastically.

I seriously love to see how responsive you are @glenalbrethsen :)

Engagement is important, and since I have time to do it, I do as much replying as possible, especially on my own posts.

Hey, @akomoajong.

Looks like you've got some consensus favorites along with some others haven't really gone for which means you're kind of curator most of us want. :) What's interesting about that is, though, is your note that you upvote more based on person rather than topic. With a wide range of interests, it still sounds like you need to know the person, too. :)

Yeah, getting acquainted with people sometimes gives me an excitement to upvote their posts even without reading :)

Still, I don't consider people I know when it's more of a task like say running my different contests. I'm strictly professional in nature 😎

Hey, @gillianpearce.

Photography and art seem to be leading at this point. You're the second person in a row to say they upvote more based on the person. I would expect that to be more prevalent, so we'll see how many others say they do.

I'm surprised that art is leading @glenalbrethsen since that's what I came here for originally but couldn't find much so I switched to photography. Maybe I need to take another look around. Perhaps there's more of it about these days. 😁
