Our hero checks the grate with lighting coming from it. He removes it for a better view and is startled to discover two barges arguing with each other in a corridor just below him. He recognizes the one gesturing and loudly telling some sort of story as the guard he electrocuted in order to escape.

He is probably looking for that mysterious fairy that was pulling his ding-dong while he was unconscious. HE liked it!!?? What a perverted barge!))
My hero should wait a moment to see if those two people move and can go ahead to see if he can get another way out, but he should remember that further back he left some stairs that could go up and try to verify if he finds the exit there.
I think he should do a Mission Impossible and drop down with a couple friendly boot to the heads! It will be a bad day for the guards!
