More like Western RPG games. Of course I play Final Fantasy too, but we can't really design our own characters in FF games, except the mmo ones, but I don't play them.

Oh yeah, I wouldn't be surprised if you will pick a class that can summon spiders and jellyfishes and uhh... other animals XD.
I think she's summoning not her biggest familiar, but can do the job quickly, maybe a dire wolf or sommit.

Yes, curvy lines are a life saver. But I should try to master straight lines as well... still trying, sometimes failing.
