Es Selendang Mayang

The name of this one ice drink sounds pretty, huh? Eits besides the name, it looks pretty too, you know. The ice scarf mayang comes from Betawi and has a sweet-savory taste. Shawl mayang shaped like a layer cake is made from sago flour and hunkwe flour which is then given a variety of colors. It feels chewy and very fitting served with a brown sugar sauce and coconut milk. Some Betawi people themselves consider this ice drink is quite ancient, so often presented in traditional events, marriage, and so forth.
