✈ It's Beautiful Inside - The Collapsed Cave Challenge

in #drone6 years ago (edited)

There is this collapsed cave up in the cliffs, kind of a rock bridge. I was speculating since quite some time whether I should try to fly through it or not. I was thinking there might be a blind spot where I could lose the video signal just when passing through the critical passage and possibly leaving me with a crashed drone in a spot difficult to reach (I'm not a climber). Well, it turned out there is no blind spot and I can easily buzz through the fucking cave! :-)

Is there some kind of device on the drone that warns you if you are close to an obstacle? I am always amazed at how seemingly close you get to things without crashing. Or is it just a case of having a lot of experience and being able to judge distance?

Also, is the above a complete parts list to get a working drone? What do you use as a controller and vr goggles? Also, what is the flight time, out of curiosity? I have a an AR Drone that I bought for like $300 a few years ago and was so disappointed by how fast the battery discharged and the fact that it was out of range when only barely across the lawn that I stuck it in the closet and haven't gotten it out since.

I don't have any collision detection system on the drone, it's all flown manually. The parts list is complete just for the drone. On the ground I'm using the FrSky Taranis X9D+ Transmitter with the TBS Crossfire radio system and the Fatshark HD goggles with the Furious True-D V3.5 Diversity Receiver + 2 antennas.

With this setup I have flight times up to 7 minutes, depending how I fly. However, I'm not going to re-build my other drone with different motors and larger props to get flight times up to 15 or more minutes.

Thanks for the info. I think that I have enough to get going. It looks like it is much cheaper to build with parts than to buy a fully assembled high end drone. Much appreciated!

Cool thanks for this list and the link, I really want to get one of these set ups. Maybe next Spring. I like to try on new things in Spring for some reason, new beginning new birth all that. Where I spend my Summers there are a lot of things I'd love to see this way! I wish it could go underwater like a mini sub!

I added links to the parts I'm using. Many of these are affiliate links so if you purchase through them I'll get some provision!

Oh nice, I will check it out, thanks!

WOW. I watch it in HD quality at home TV!
and charming. yes it's a great trip. Thank you for sharing with us

and have a nice day, my friend :)

Thank you Mustafa!

The vedio clip is awesome. In some time it seems that i also fly with the drone.

Glad you like it! Thanks @aburashed!

Yay for getting through the collapsed cave without getting stuck XD yeh getting up there to retrieve it would have been interesting :) some really nice views out there!
