EFFECTS OF CODEINE
The full knowledge about codeine cannot be summarised in a single write-up. I will be highlighting on the side effects of codeine.
The commonest side effects of codeine are:
Dizziness
Tiredness
Dry mouth
Euphoria, restlessness
Blurred vision
Limbs
OVERDOSE
If the intake is too high, you might overdose. You may experience the following;
Severe constipation
Agitation
Inability to pass urine
Very slow, shallow breathing
Hallucinations and sometimes seizure
Coma and death
Regular use of codeine may eventually cause;
- constipation
- Reduced sex drive
- irregular periods
- Tension and muscles twitches
Is Codeine Addictive? Is it a controlled substance?
Codeine is habit forming(addictive). Mental and physical dependence can occur, but these are unlikely when used for short-term pain relief.
The use of codeine during pregnancy can cause opioid withdrawal syndrome in the newborn which may be life-threatening if not treated.
And Yes, you need a prescription for codeine. In the US, codeine is a schedule II controlled.
Can one drink alcohol with codeine? What other drugs cause interactions with codeine?
Codeine can impair thinking and physical abilities required for driving or operating machinery.
Drugs that stimulate and also block opioid receptors (for example, pentazocine) reduce the effect of codeine. Such drugs should not be combined with codeine.
Drugs that block the action of acetylcholine(anticholinergic drugs) increase the occurrence of urinary retention and constipation when combined with codeine.

With all these effects you still find young people consuming it likke they are drinking water.
The most annyoying thing is that these codeine consumers take it as an alternative to other hard drinks(alcohols) when they go broke(financial incapability).
I am not surprise that it reduces sex drive.... what else would you expect from a dizzy head???
