Today's song: "That my nose itches." Venezuelan traditional music

in #dsound6 years ago

The federal entity framed within the federal territory of Sucre State in Venezuela, is the result of a syncretism and cultural diversity. This piece of land in the east of the country shows us, at present, an interesting and significant musical universe that enriches its collective feeling and its daily dynamics. It is in this socio-historical-cultural evolution where we find the indigenous, European and African musical contributions that have merged to offer us that beautiful musical range that this federal entity called Sucre State possesses.

Despite the strong globalizing process of culture, the devaluation and the loss that is experienced today of some of the musical expressions in Venezuela, in Sucre the musical tradition is maintained, through a process of resistance, because it feeds on the constant inventiveness and the deep popular roots of its cultores.

With this brief introduction, we present today's song; a traditional musical form that has been compiled by the popular sucresse cultur Jorge Cabello. On this occasion, he interprets a merengue with Marimba entitled "Que me pica la nariz" (That my nose itches). It is a musical compilation that Jorge himself made as a way to protect, protect and safeguard this type of event for future Venezuelan generations.

Jorge Cabello is an icon of our popular culture and, in addition, is one of the greatest musical exponents of the Marimba; Single string cordófono instrument (monochord), constructed with wood, a nylon rope and a pin for its tensioning. This instrument probably has an indigenous origin, to which, over time, other elements have been added or replaced as a consequence of the hybridity and cultural mestization of our peoples.

To perform the Marimba, the performer must place one of the ends of the instrument against the oral cavity, which acts as a sounding board, in this way, the interpreter prepares to press the string with a plectrum, while the left hand modulates the different sounds of the melody along the string. The sounds that can be appreciated, in a first auditory plane, sound at first, in a monotonous and repetitive way from the Dominant to the Tonic, but it is enough that the listener sharpens the hearing and can appreciate the different harmonics that arise from that apparent sound repetition. In this way, our ancestors recreated some kind of musical manifestation that today is at risk of being lost.

This collection is part of the Discographic Work entitled Sucre, Music and Tradition (2002), which was conducted under the patronage of Fundapatrimoniosucre, with the support of the National Council of Culture (CONAC) and the Government of Sucre State, all State institutions Venezuelan. The work was musicalized, supervised and produced by this server who writes these lines (Estelio Padilla). All this Musical Production represents an enormous effort on the part of each one of us who are committed to promote and spread our Venezuelan culture. This is how, on this occasion, a part of the collection that brings together the emblematic musical instruments and genres of our tradition is shown, seeking to reaffirm the value of our musical expressions and their popular cultores, thus demonstrating the immense creative potential of the people of the State Sucre.
